CENTRAL VALLEY ASIAN-AMERICAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE -- Dennis Lee spoke first about the upcoming “Lotus Celebration”, where the CVAACC honors area organizations for their contribution to our community -- Chinese Cultural Society of Stockton, Japanese American Citizens League-Stockton, and our chapter. The celebration takes place May 29, at China Palace for $35/person. Our chapter was given two complimentary tickets. It was decided that Anita and Terri go since Mel LaGasca is unable to attend. We are allotted one table for a display. Anita will decide what to exhibit.
Dennis also mentioned that the Chamber is starting a new Community Network (Asian Pacific Community Network) that will help the non-profit sector of the community. They will meet once a month and hold workshops for grant writing, etc. He would like us to appoint one or two people to represent our group. Dennis will get more information to us soon.

She is also planning to have an exhibit in October at the Chavez Library about “Zoot Suits”, and maybe an exhibit about the Arcadia book at the Tracy Library in October. Virgie Melear will need to contact the libraries first.

OLD BUSINESS
Filipino-American History 2008 calendars - Anita said that she doesn't have any more “unclaimed” calendars left. Little Manila, at the time, had about 83 calendars left and is selling them at $10/each. If anyone still needs a calendar, they are urged to contact Little Manila as soon as possible.
“Filipinos in Stockton” Arcadia Book - The books have been selling well. Our chapter has about 190 left out of 338. Little Manila had to order more books from Arcadia and Arcadia had to order a second run for the book because they only had 200 left. The second run is just printing the same book again with no corrections. When a “second print” is run, corrections will then be made. If anyone has any corrections, they need to send them to Dawn Mabalon or us as soon as you can. Terri and Letty Perez have already submitted some changes.
The book will also be sold at the FANHS Alaska conference in July. Dawn Mabalon will do the book signing at the “Author's Reception”, plus have a table for book sales continually throughout the conference. All books sold will go into the Museum Fund. Buster Villa, Nena Calica and David Galbiso (Rio Grand FANHS) have agreed to help Dawn with the books.
NEW BUSINESS
Pepsi Group Family Diversity Day - We received an email from Pepsi inviting us to have a booth at their annual Diversity Day event on May 18th. Anita said this would be a good event to “network” with the community, so she and Rosemary Chin will prepare and man a booth for the event. Terri will email the required entrance form back to Pepsi. [Update: Anita and Rossi attended the event, and Anita stated that they were the only booth there and that the event needed to be better organized. She let the facilitator know that we would be willing to do this event next year, so to keep us on their mailing list.]
Summer Meetings - It was decided not to have any meetings in June, July or August because of summer plans. The only event coming up is the Barrio Fiesta in August, and we will need volunteers to help man an information-only booth. Anyone interested needs to contact Anita Bautista as soon as you're able at (209) 956-1728, so shifts can be devised.
Anita stated that if anything came up during the summer months, an Executive Board could meet to handle it. [Update: We received an invitation from the International Club at Delta College to have a booth at their Cultural Fair on May 15th, but the invitation came after the deadline date for the entrance form. Anita had Terri write a response (email) to the club indicating our regrets on participating because of the late notice, but to keep us on their mailing list for next year.]
Barrio Festival - Mel LaGasca was unable to attend our chapter meeting, but had requested Anita to let members know that volunteers will be needed to man our booth. Our booth will be located in the same place, and Anita will need many helpers throughout the day, so please contact her. The Festival will be on August 9 and 10 at the Filipino Plaza, downtown Stockton.
Meeting adjourned at 11:40 AM. Museum meeting immediately followed. [These minutes were written from “memory” as Letty did take the minutes, but became ill and hospitalized during the middle of May, so Terri wrote these up for her. If there are any mistakes or items left out, it will be corrected in the September minutes. Letty is doing fine now, thank goodness!]
Next meeting will be September 6, 2008 at the Dameron Hospital Annex building at 10AM.
REMINDER - NO CHAPTER MEETINGS UNTIL SEPTEMBER 6, 2008
