Because Virgie Melear is not able to participate in many of the Chapter’s activities and she was a charter member of the Stockton Chapter and a past Treasurer for several years as well as a member of the Education Committee, Terri Torres made a motion to honor her with a lifetime membership. Manuel Bonzo seconded it. Motion carried. Virgie is our first honorary Lifetime member. ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE REPORT May 2, 2009 -- byViolet Dutra & Mary Louise Lopez
October Event: Mary Louise needs raffle prizes. Menu still needs to be confirmed with China Palace. We are waiting for nominations of awardees. Deadline is July 1st. Anita asked Manuel Bonzo to submit the biography of his father, Cecil Bonzo, as a nominee for a posthumous award. Another possible posthumous award is Rev. Maurice Legare, founder of the Trinity Presbyterian Church, Stockton, and was suggested by Leatrice Perez. Two other nominees suggested were Mel Suguitan by L. Perez and Eugene Tibon by Mel LaGasca.
The Golf Tournament: Mary Louise has enough raffle prizes and has items for the white elephant sale. Leatrice Perez brought several Gift Cards for dinner at the Elephant Bar that were donated by Dean Perez, General Manager of the E-Bar for raffle prizes.

Anita had been attending the meetings of P.L.A.Y. where plans were made for our participation. Lorenzo Romano of LMF will prepare our displays and set up the tables for the handouts. Anita said that since most everyone will be at the FANHS Golf Tournament/Picnic, she didn’t think we would have anyone there to represent FANHS. Letty Perez said that she wasn’t planning to go to the picnic, so she will try to attend to the FANHS table /exhibit at Weber Point.
May 16 = The Chavez Library will host Asian Pacific American Heritage month in May. Festivities will begin at 11 a.m. with Tony Somera, the master of Bahala Na Filipino Martial Arts. He will demonstrate Arnis, one of the three major forms of Filipino martial arts. Anita will be there to represent FANHS.

On the Storage Units --Terri Torres said that we were sent a notice that we were past due on our rent for the two storage units. She will show these receipts to Mel so he can talk with the storage company regarding the overpayment.
