E. EXHIBIT COMMITTEE: Virgie Melear and Anita Bautista:
A FANHS display at the Barrio Fiesta in August was received well. It was felt that such exhibits at various venues, such as the Barrio Fiesta, are very effective towards informing the public about FANHS. It was also brought out how important it is for everyone to become involved in writing down memories and putting them in the archives.
A FANHS display will be exhibited through the month of November at the Maya Angelou Library in South Stockton. The theme is Filipino Americans in the U.S. Military.
OLD BUSINESS:
The September 25th event "FANHS & Friends Appreciation Picnic" will be held at Victory Park from 10AM-6 PM. Mel announced that the facility contract fee ($35) with the city was paid by Stockton FANHS. Reserved is the general area west of the Totem Pole area, which is to the right of the museum building. There is room for 90 people. It will be potluck and FANHS will provide utensils and beverages. Mel arranged for a tour of the Haggin Museum with Marilyn Guida. The one-hour tour will begin at 2:30 pm for the first 30 to sign up.
Mel has arranged for insurance for the October event as he did for the August event.
Joy Neas displayed a Parol at the Barrio Fiesta. She is working with Frank Gatdula, the Filipino Plaza Social Services Coordinator, to possibly get the tenants involved, also, in making the Parols. Joy is requesting financial support to help buy supplies for workshops. A motion was made and passed to donate $50 for the Parol project.
Mel provided a St. Louis Conference update and Museum update. He has prepared a binder with photos and literature about the Conference, together with summaries written by Terri Torres and other FANHS trustees. He made a presentation to the Board of Trustees at the St. Louis conference, and later was able to speak to individual trustees asking for their assistance in line with their interest and expertise.
AGENDA ITEM FOR OCTOBER MEETING: Discussion of having a fundraiser to raise money to send members to the FANHS conferences.
The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2004 at 10:00 AM Dameron Hospital, Conference Room B in basement.
