Trustee Meeting Report -- In the absence of Mel LaGasca, Terri read and passed around his e-mailed report to the group. In short, he was able to discuss the progress of the National FANHS Museum and request help from other chapters. He also told them about our chapter’s recent activities.
The Trustees voted to assess each active Chapter an additional $100 over and above the 1/3rd membership dues fee to help defray the costs of National FANHS office, Pinoy Archives, and Museum project. Each chapter will be formally notified of this new assessment soon.
Update on Arcadia Book and 2008 Calendar – Terri reported on the progress of the book – several hundreds of photographs were scanned at three different locations (Anita's home, Trinity Church, and Barrio Festival) by Dawn Mabalon and Rico Reyes, as well as several Little Manila Foundation volunteers and our chapter members. These will be sorted through to find the best 250 or so photos for the book and for the calendar.
Questions were raised about FANHS involvement in the producing of this book and calendar. It was moved and seconded (Letty/Deanna) that our president communicate with Dawn Mabalon to clarify Stockton FANHS chapter’s involvement with Little Manila on the Arcadia Book and the 2008 photo calendar. Motion passed.
OTHER BUSINESS:
Our Voice Program: Richard Gacer approached Mel LaGasca about featuring FANHS and Little Manila on the Comcast "Our Voice" program featured on a local cable channel in Stockton. It will be filmed on September 10 at 5:30 PM to be shown in October. Members present agreed to participate in the "Our Voice" program. Terri Torres, Anita Bautista, Mel LaGasca and Letty Perez will meet at Comcast for filming. Topics will probably include what FANHS is about, what our chapter does, the importance of Filipino American history, the Museum project, and short bios of ourselves.
NewOfficersfor 2008-2009: Terri brought out that nominations need to be presented at the October meeting, with voting to be held during the month of November, winners announced in December, and new officers to take office in January. Everyone is welcomed to submit nominations by the November 3rd meeting and a ballot will be mailed out in November due back by the December Christmas meeting/party (date to be announced).
Central Valley Asian American Chamber of Commerce: The renewal of membership in the CVAACC was discussed. Anita brought out the importance of networking during the Chamber's mixers, the articles and advertisements in the APA newspaper and the support they've shown FANHS. It was decided by consensus to approve the renewal of dues totaling $125.00.
Museum Project: Mel emailed his report to Terri. Highlights include that the Golf Tournament in 2008 will be held on the Saturday of Mother's Day weekend in May. Since there have been suggestions for a family picnic, too, he has contacted Dillon Delvo to see if perhaps Little Manila may take that up as a project. Mel will look for a golf course that will be conducive to also have a picnic either at the course or nearby. More discussions will be held at the next meeting.
ADJOURNMENT
Meeting was adjourned at 12:45pm. The next meeting will be held on October 6, 2007, at 10AM at Dameron Hospital.
