How
do!
Cool Rabbit here, reporting from The Inn at Long Trail near
Killington. I visited the Homestead Website upon receipt of the latest
email.
Here's what I have of recent:
1-The Pico/Killington
relocations are in place, and the AT and the Long Trail officially go by about
two miles south of its old location.
2-The "Historic Trail", which is
located at Sherburne Pass, is being maintained by the Green Mountain Hiking
Club. They are still working on a name, so I'll send that when I learn
it.
3-Purists, no doubt, will follow every white blaze like zombies along
the newer and less interesting relocation. Keep in mind that the "Historic
AT" has better views from Pico and passes by the Inn at Long Trail, which is a
landmark long beloved of hikers for it's Guiness, Live Traditional Irish Music
each weekend, and dramatic location at the foot of Deer Leap. It also
reconnects with the Trail above the Inn.
4-The Inn at Long Trail hopes to
be open by the 23rd of June, but we must insist that we will NOT ACCEPT
reservations or packages until the 30th because of renovations. Those who
happen to stroll by before the 30th are welcome to stay on a walk-in basis ONLY
if we are open. Anyone passing by before the 30th should address
mail to the Killington Post Office, which is 1/2 mile from the "Historic Trail"
and 1 1/2 miles from the AT on Rt. 4.
5-I have mail from the 99
thru-hikers still in our mail-box. I will send Trail Names and initials if
you like, and those hikers can call the Inn if they want me to forward their
lost mail to them. 802-775-7181
6-I am more than willing to talk to
folks about thru-hiking by email at mailto:coolrabbit@hotmail.com
7-I will send info for
on-trail emergencies once the hiking season gets closer.
8-Mr. Clean is
welcome to crash at my home for a few if he so desires. I'll even
cook him dinner and buy him a pint.
If you like, I can send you a contour
map detailing the trail relocations which you can scan onto your website.
I'll be glad to send one to hikers who desire one as well.
If you want
articles, I'll be happy to write one on the relocation and investigate the
reasoning behind it, which is interesting to say the least. Let me
know.
Cool
Rabbit
