I could not believe my eyes when I found this site doing a search of the WEB. Bobby D was and still is one of my all time faveorite Chicago Bears. I still remember being glued to the TV back in '71, '72 and 1973 when douglass was the QB for the Bears. Was he a great passer? No but as for heart and kicking butt and taking names every play every game he was great. Just one correction for you though. The run you mentioned of 57 yards where Bobby ran over Thom Darden. It was against Cleavland. I remember it well because I was at the game. Keep up the great work with this sight.

What a great site!!! I never imagined a fan site for Bobby. He was my idol growing up since I was lefty. Every year I dressed up as him for halloween..I had long blonde hair, lefty, etc. Since I lived in Chicago it was easy to be a fan. I was only 8yrs old in '72 so I thought he was the best. I finally got a chance to meet him at an autograph signing about 5yrs ago and talked to him for about 45mins. No one was there but he was happy I remembered him. He signed my poster that I've had since I got it as a kid. He talked about his son who was about to graduate from college then. He stated that his son was better than he ever was. Thanks for letting me ramble. Feel free to email me if you need to and hope you continue to keep this site up. FYI..he will be at the Chicago Bears Convention this year if you live in Chicago or will be passing thru..Its in Feb

Though the wins never piled up, I always immersed myself on Sundays growing up and watching Bobby Douglass pound his way up the field. I don't think anyone really looks back and speaks with the criticism they had at the time. If Bobby came back today, there would most certainly be a place for him. With the newer softer rules of today, he'd probably rush for 1500 yards. Thanks for the memories.... Jeff

Bobby is my favorite QB of all time. I remember watching him get his helmet knocked off against the Vikings and kept on running. I grew up watching him run over defensive players or knocking his own receivers over with that awesome left arm of his. I'm sure he could have extended his career switching to running, but I'm glad he stayed at QB. Thanks for the great memories.

Bobby's older brother Bill, played defensive lineman under Frank Broyles at Arkansas on the 1964 Nat'l Championship team to be exact. Bill redshirted but then was drafted in the ARMY, not the Air Force, after his eligibility and served his country proudly in Vietnam. I don't know all of his veteran stats but I do recall seeing his 3 purple hearts among other military honors. They were 2 incredibly gifted athletes and naturally both had offspring that were gifted athletically too. If you ever meet one of the Douglass' you will be meeting one of the nicest people around. Being from Kansas will do that to you!

I remember his brother telling us. How he and Bobby, would sit on the front porch, at his grandfathers farm, and shoot the hog in the balls, with a BB gun. His brother was in the Air Force. On his last day of duty he was the CQ, he pissed in the coffee pot, when he made the coffee. Then he wrote a letter weeks later telling us, what he did. Glad I wasn't there.

The Bears' new Training Camp home for 2002 is on the campus of Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, IL (near Kankakee), about an hour south of Chicago. Bobby Douglass has signed on as a guest commentator and on-air radio host on the local Kankakee Radio station, WKAN (1320 AM) during the 3-4 weeks of Camp and throughout the season, and I'm sure he'll be great. I've had the privelege to meet him; Bobby is a true gentleman and a great guy.

I'm very glad to see that there is a Bobby Douglass web site. Any info that gets info out to the public on one of the most entertaining QB's ever to play in the NFL, let alone the BEST QB the Bears ever had....is great. Did ya know that Bobby married a Playboy centerfold and that two of his sons were very good college athletes...one played basketball at The University of WI. and the other is/wa a QB for a team in MO. I've been a huge fan of Douglass since I was a kid in Jr. High. I always look for info on Douglass. Thanks for the site. Beau

I was going thru some of my old football cards the other night and came across Bobby D. He was a real "gamer" and although I was a Colts fan at the time I vividly remember his 72 season. I enjoyed watching him play!

Bobby was 1 of 2 or 3 players interesting enough to keep me a Bears fan when they were terrible. I wonder how Douglass would have fared playing on a team like the mid 80's Bears. I think he was better then either Jim Harbaugh or Mike Tomczak who were able to win with that team's supporting talent. Who knows, Douglass might have been another lefty superstar like the 49ers Steve Young who labored in obscurity with the woeful Tampa Bay Bucs before joining SanFrancisco and leading them to several championships. Bobby never got a fair chance.
