CCS Episode 03 - Sakura's Heart-Pounding First Date

OPENING THEME MUSIC: "Catch You, Catch Me"

*** Aquarium ***

Sakura and her friends are at the aquarium. Tomoyo is filming as Sakura looks at some fish in one of the tanks.

SAKURA: Hey, hey, these fish over here are really kawaii!

She runs over to a puffer fish.

SHORT-HAIRED GIRL: Sakura-chan looks so happy.

TOMOYO: She does, doesn't she?

GIRL WITH GLASSES: Sakura-chan likes school sports and trips and things like that.

Sakura puffs out her cheeks like the puffer fish.

SAKURA, narrating: I'm Kinomoto Sakura, a fourth-grader at Tomoeda elementary. Today I'm on a social studies field trip. We're visiting public facilities in groups. My group came to the aquarium. I love aquariums!

Chiharu comes through a doorway.

CHIHARU: The penguin show is about to begin!

GIRL WITH GLASSES and SHORT-HAIRED GIRL: Hai!

TOMOYO: Sakura-chan-

Sakura dashes past her.

SAKURA: Everyone, let's hurry up!

GIRL WITH GLASSES: She's fast.

Sakura takes the escalator.

SAKURA: Peguin-san! Penguin-san! Penguin-san!

TOMOYO: Sakura-chan looks so happy!

TITLE SCREEN

The penguin trainer is in the pool with the penguins. She holds out a hoop and they swim through it.

SAKURA: Amazing, huh? Amazing, huh? That looks so nice.... I wish I could swim with penguin-san, too!

TOMOYO: Well, Sakura-chan, you're very good at swimming.

One of the penguins jumps onto the side of the pool and waves its wing.

Note: Would it be "wing" or "flipper"? [confused]

SAKURA: Kawaii!

The water around the trainer's foot starts to swirl. She is pulled under, but struggles to the surface and clutches the side of the pool.

TRAINER: My leg!

The penguin still in the pool swims over to the swirl.

SAKURA: Don't, penguin-san!!!!

The penguin is caught by the swirl.

SAKURA: Penguin-san!

She pounds the glass with her fist.

SAKURA: Penguin-san! Penguin-san! Penguin-san!

Tomoyo stops her.

TOMOYO: Sakura-chan?

SAKURA: We have to save penguin-san! [pounding] Penguin-san! Penguin-san! Penguin-san!

Touya enters the pool area carrying buckets.

TOUYA: What's going on out here?

TRAINER: One of the penguins got drawn into a whirlpool! But I can't save it!

The trainer tries to free her leg, but fails. Touya throws the buckets down and jumps into the water. He pulls at the whirlpool until it stops. He and the penguin come to the surface. The audience sighs in relief.

SAKURA: Hoe? Onii-chan?

*** Kitchen ***

Sakura is stirring the contents of a bowl.

KERO: Eh? You almost drowned, Sakura?

SAKURA: That's not it. Kero-chan, you weren't listening to me, were you?

KERO: Oh, sorry.... Everyone's out and I'm outta your room for the first time in a while, so I can't get over the rush. But I see. Of course there's no way Sakura could drown. You're a good athlete if nothin' else.

SAKURA: What do you mean "if nothing else"?! No pancakes for you.

KERO: Ahhh, Sakura-sama!

Sakura pours the batter into a pan and cooks the pancakes. She puts the stack on the table.

KERO: It's even weirder that a penguin almost drowned.

SAKURA: The adults said that maybe the plug in the pool got pulled out. But it looked different to me. Here.

She gives Kero a piece of her pancake.

SAKURA: I don't think it was an accident like that, but rather.... Rather, I felt I knew what it was....

KEROl, with his mouth full: You mean like when you meet a Clow card?

SAKURA: Yeah.

TOUYA'S VOICE: Tadaima!

SAKURA: Wah! Kero-chan, go to my room! Hide yourself!

She throws him up the stairs just before Touya passes by.

SAKURA: Oh! Okaerini!

TOUYA: Yeah.

SAKURA: Hey, hey, onii-chan, weren't you at the aquarium today?

He points to the bulletin board.

TOUYA: It's written here.

The bulletin board reads: "Fujitaka: Today as usual. Anniversary of school's founding. Touya: Work! Sakura: Field Trip"

SAKURA: Hey, why were you at the penguin show? What kind of work is it?

TOUYA: Feeding penguins.

SAKURA: Eh? That'd be great!

TOUYA: No, it's not.

SAKURA: Huh? How come?

TOUYA: Because.

He takes a bite of her pancakes.

SAKURA: Ahhh! How mean! I bought those pancakes with my allowance!

TOUYA: Hey! What are you waiting for? Come in!

YUKITO'S VOICE: Gomen, gomen!

He enters.

YUKITO: I was taking my shoes off. Konnichiwa, Sakura-chan!

SAKURA: Yu.... Yukito-san! [quietly] Konnichiwa.

YUKITO: These look delicious! You're a good cook, Sakura-chan.

SAKURA: It.... It's nothing....

TOUYA: Yeah, it's really nothing.

Sakura stomps his foot.

SAKURA: Ummm....

YUKITO: Hai?

SAKURA: Y.... You can have some pancakes if you want.

YUKITO: Are you sure? You spent your allowance on them, didn't you?

SAKURA: It's fine. I'll bring them to onii-chan's room later!

YUKITO: Arigatou.

Sakura blushes and giggles happily.

*** Hallway ***

Sakura carries the tray of pancakes to Touya's room and stops in front of the closed door.

SAKURA, thinking: Hanyaan! But I can't knock.... What should I do?

YUKITO'S VOICE: Thanks for your trouble, Sakura-chan!

He opens the door.

SAKURA, happily: I.... Iee....

TOUYA: What were you standing there for, Sakura?

SAKURA: Ummm, how could you notice since I didn't knock?

YUKITO: Somehow I felt Sakura-chan was there.

*** Sakura's Bedroom ***

KERO: Aquarium.... Water.... Aquarium.... Water...

Sakura runs in and leans against the door. She sighs happily and sinks to the floor.

KERO: Sakura? Hey, Sakura, what's wrong with you?

She clutches Kero to her chest.

SAKURA: Yukito-san!

KERO: He-ey!

Sakura falls to the floor.

KERO: What're you doing, you nitwit?! What about your job as the card captor?!

SAKURA: I'd pick Yukito-san over the cards.

KERO: Hey, hey! Is it okay with you if penguins and stuff drown?!

Sakura sits up and releases Kero.

SAKURA: No way. Poor penguin-san....

Kero flies away weakly.

KERO: I thought I was gonna die.... It could be really tough this time. When the trainer and the penguin almost drowned, they were in the water, obviously.

SAKURA: Yeah.

KERO: But did you see the thing that tried to drown them?

SAKURA: No, nothing. All I saw was swirling water.

KERO: Then that's probably the Watery card.

SAKURA: I knew it! Then I just need to capture it and change it back into a card?

KERO: It won't be that easy. Watery's invisible in water. Even if you could draw it out of the water, it if comes apart and scatters, it'll be even harder to deal with. It's hard to capture something that has no form. Watery is one of the higher-level Clow cards. The four basic element cards of earth, water, fire, and wind are very hard to use. And Watery is an attack card, so it has a violent temper. Sakura, the cards you have are Windy, Fly, and Shadow. You're no match for Watery with those. For example, even if you used Windy, a card on the same high level as Watery, you still couldn't beat it. Because Windy is gentle.

SAKURA: Windy, Shadow, Fly. I have these three cards in my hand.

EYECATCH - Sakura

*** Schoolyard ***

Sakura is walking slowly throught the schoolyard, her head down. Tomoyo watches her bend down and scoop some water out of the reflecting pool.

SAKURA, thinking: How do I capture water? I have to hurry up and catch Watery soon.

TOMOYO: You don't look too cheerful, Sakura-chan.

SAKURA: Nah, that's not right!

Tomoyo looks closely at her, then takes her hand.

TOMOYO: It seems the time has come for the great ordeal that every hero must face sooner or later.

Sakura and Tomoyo sit under a tree.

TOMOYO: So it could be the work of a Clow card.

SAKURA: Yeah, but Kero-chan doesn't think I'll be able to beat it yet.

*** Street ***

Sakura is rollerblading as Tomoyo walks beside her.

SAKURA: Tomoyo-chan?

TOMOYO: Hai.

SAKURA: Thank you for listening.

TOMOYO: Sakura-chan, it's best when you're smiling! Oh, yeah, this is for you, Sakura-chan!

She gives a pink cellular phone to Sakura.

TOMOYO: It's a brand-new product my mother's company made. This one is for you, Sakura-chan, and this one is for Kero-chan.

She gets another phone out of her bag.

SAKURA: Is it really all right?

TOMOYO: Of course! My mother said she wants you to tell her how it feels to use.

SAKURA: Thank you for thinking of me.

They come to the road.

TOMOYO: Well, see you tomorrow!

SAKURA: Yeah, see you later!

She skates off by herself and remembers the previous night.

SAKURA, in past: But if I combine all three of these cards, maybe I could....

KERO, in past: You can't, you can't. No way can you use them to beat it.

Sakura returns to reality.

SAKURA, thinking: But Watery is still there. I'm a bit frustrated.

She skates around the corner, lost in thought. Suddenly she sees someone in her path and swerves to avoid them. She falls down, but the person catches her.

SAKURA: Gomen na- Ahhh!

She realizes that it's Yukito.

YUKITO: Are you all right, Sakura-chan?

SAKURA: Yu.... Yukito-san....

YUKITO: It's dangerous to not watch where you're going.

SAKURA: Hai. Sumimasehn.

YUKITO: Thanks for the food yesterday. The pancakes were nice.

SAKURA: Iee, it's nothing.

YUKITO: You're coming back from your club meeting late, huh?

SAKURA: Eh?

YUKITO: You're in cheerleading, aren't you?

SAKURA: H.... Hai.

YUKITO: Touya told me you hit him in the head with your baton at home.

SAKURA, thinking: Ah! Onii-chan! What a thing to tell Yukito-san...!

YUKITO: In return for the pancakes, why don't we go out for something tasty?

SAKURA: Eh? Do you mean it?

YUKITO: I know a restaurant that serves something quite delicious. Let's meet at the Penguin Park at one o'clock tomorrow.

SAKURA: Hai!

Sakura skates home, giggling happily.

SAKURA: All right!

She runs up to her room.

*** Sakura's Bedroom ***

Sakura sinks to the floor, blushing.

SAKURA: Yukito-san...!

KERO: What, what? Not again!

Sakura dials her new cell phone.

TOMOYO'S VOICE: Hai, this is Daidouji. We are unable to answer the phone right now. Please leave a message after the tone.

SAKURA: Tomoyo-chan, it's Sakura. I've got a date with Yukito-san tomorrow! We're meeting at one o'clock tomorrow! I'm sooo happy! I'll call you later, okay?

She giggles and clicks the phone off.

*** Street ***

Yukito is leaning against a tree in Penguin Park. Sakura runs up. They walk.

SAKURA: Ummm....

YUKITO: Hmmm?

SAKURA: Did I get the meeting time wrong?

YUKITO: Nah, you came fifteen minutes early.

SAKURA: Eh? Then Yukito-san....

YUKITO: I didn't want to make you wait, so I came early.

Sakura blushes.

*** Aquarium ***

Sakura and Yukito approach the aquarium.

SAKURA: Huh? We're at....

YUKITO: Oh, yeah. I heard you came here the other day, Sakura-chan.

SAKURA: We're going inside?

YUKITO: That's right.

They enter. Tomoyo is hiding behind a tree, with her camera in hand and Kero on her shoulder. She and Kero are both wearing sunglasses.

KERO: I see. So this is the aquarium. This is perfect. I can check if the Clow card is here, and....

TOMOYO: I can videotape Sakura-chan's first date!

They high-five each other, then run to the aquarium.

KERO: Let's go.

TOMOYO: Yeah!

Sakura and Yukito look at a gigantic flounder.

YUKITO: That's a big fish.

SAKURA: It really is!

YUKITO: Think it's edible?

SAKURA: I don't think one person could eat it alone.

YUKITO: I don't know about that.

Tomoyo is hiding around the corner, filming.

TOMOYO: How heart-warming!

KERO: They don't even hold hands. Kids these days....

A little boy runs up to Kero, who is sitting in Tomoyo's coat pocket. He pats Kero's head.

BOY: Nuigurumi-san!

KERO: Young man, don't mess with me or you'll be seriously hurt.

The little boy runs back to his mother.

TOMOYO: They're moving.

She starts to follow.

KERO, to the little boy: So long.

Sakura and Yukito look at a huge, circular tank of fish with a spiral staircase around it.

SAKURA: Amazing, amazing, amazing! I didn't get to see this part last time.

YUKITO: You didn't know there's a tea room because of the accident at the penguin show, right?

SAKURA: Yeah.

YUKITO: Watching beautiful fish-

He notices Touya below.

YUKITO: Touya!

SAKURA: Onii-chan?

Sakura and Yukito sit down at a table.

SAKURA: Did someone else take over the job at the penguin show?

TOUYA: I heard that they're emptying all of the water out of the tank to check it.

SAKURA: Eh? [thinking] Then Watery....

YUKITO: You should be glad you don't have to go in the refrigerator anymore. I heard it's really cold in the refrigerator where the penguins' food is stored.

SAKURA: Eh?

TOUYA: It's practically the same. Now I'm making shaved ice.

YUKITO: The one they serve here with strawberry milk is really good.

SAKURA, thinking: Ice? Shaved ice?

YUKITO: Okay, get us two of them.

TOUYA: Hai.

There is a swirl of water in the tank behind them.

TOUYA: Yuki, are you sure you don't want a super size?

YUKITO: Oh, you have super size?

Tomoyo is filming from the spiral staircase.

KERO: What's this? A date with her brother there?

Tomoyo hears a cracking sound. She raises her camera to see the tank crack open and water pour out. The water dumps down on Sakura's table and floods the tea room.

TOMOYO: Sakura-chan!

Sakura opens her eyes under the water and sees the swirl of water around her foot.

SAKURA, thinking: Watery!

The water stops pouring out of the tank. Touya swims in the water.

TOUYA: Sakura! Yuki!

Yukito opens the emergency case and removes the axe. He goes to a storage room and chops the door down. The water drains out of the tea room. Sakura's head comes out of the water and she gasps for breath.

TOMOYO: Sakura-chan!

TOUYA: Are you all right, Sakura?!

She nods weakly. Touya carries Sakura out of the water. Tomoyo is at the top of the stairs.

TOMOYO: Sakura-chan!

SAKURA: Tomoyo-chan. Oh, yeah! What about Yukito-san?

She sees Yukito standing in the water with the axe.

TOUYA: Are you all right?

He walks over to him. Yukito laughs nervously.

SAKURA: I thought I was going to die!

TOMOYO: This must be....

KERO: Yeah. The work of a Clow card.

SAKURA: Watery was here.

KERO: You saw it?

SAKURA: Hey, come to think of it, what are you two doing here?

Tomoyo and Kero laugh nervously. Yukito walks toward them and Kero hides under Tomoyo's hat.

YUKITO: Are you all right, Sakura-chan?

SAKURA: Hai.

YUKITO: The shaved ice was ruined.

SAKURA: Yeah.... [thinking] Shaved ice.... Shaved ice.... Ice.... I got it! [aloud] Yukito-san! Arigatou gozaimasu!

YUKITO: Uhhh....

*** Nighttime ***

A man leaves the aqauarium and bids the guard goodbye.

MAN: Good night.

GUARD: Yeah, good night.

As the guard goes back to watching TV, Sakura, Tomoyo, and Kero sneak past his office. Kero pauses to pull down his eyelid at the guard, but Sakura pulls him away. They run through the aquarium.

KERO: Are you sure this will be all right?

SAKURA: Just leave it to me!

Sakura and Kero run in one direction, and Tomoyo goes the other. Sakura goes to one of the fish tanks.

SAKURA: Here?

KERO: This is where magic power is strongest. It's here.

Sakura calls Tomoyo.

TOMOYO: Hai, this is Daidouji.

SAKURA: Did you find it?

TOMOYO: Certainly! It's the first basement level.

SAKURA: All right! Now hide yourself.

She clicks off the phone and stands on the side of the fish tank.

SAKURA: Watery! Come to me!

A blob of water comes out of the tank.

SAKURA: Stand back, Kero-chan.

He flies out of the way.

SAKURA: Fly!

She flies away and the water follows. Sakura flies back through the lobby and down a hallway. At the end, Tomoyo points to a staircase, then hides. Sakura flies down the stairs and stops in front of a heavy metal door.

SAKURA: Windy!

Windy blows the door open, then flies inside. The water follows. Sakura shuts the door. Watery starts to freeze and Sakura collapses against the door.

KERO: Nice, Sakura! If you freeze the water, it's easy to catch!

SAKURA: Yukito-san told me that there's a refrigerator for storing food. And thanks to Tomoyo-chan, too!

TOMOYO: I'm glad I could help! Hey, it's nearing the appropriate time.

Sakura opens the freezer door to find Watery frozen solid.

SAKURA: Return to thy true form! Clow card!

She seals Watery.

KERO: That was a great idea you hit upon.

SAKURA: It's all thanks to Yukito-san! Yukito-san!

Kero waves his paw in front of her face. She doesn't respond.

KERO: I think Sakura's frozen, too.

Tomoyo giggles.

KERO: All right! A perfect joke to end the story with! Next time show your fighting spirit, too, Sakura!

CLOSING THEME MUSIC: "Groovy"
