CCS Episode 04 - Sakura's Exhausting Sunday
OPENING THEME MUSIC: "Catch You, Catch Me"
*** Sakura's Bedroom ***
Sakura opens her windows.
SAKURA: All right! It's a sunny day!
KERO: You're right! It's as if yesterday's rain was a lie. Anyway, Sakura, today's Sunday but you got up early.
Sakura giggles.
SAKURA: Today we're going on a picnic in the park with Tomoyo-chan!
She spins Kero around.
SAKURA: Hey, Kero-chan, come with us! People won't notice as long as you're in my backpack. Okay? Okay? I'm glad we've got nice weather!
TITLE SCREEN
*** Kitchen ***
Sakura enters.
SAKURA, happily: Ohayo!
FUJITAKA: Ohayo, Sakura-san.
Sakura hums happily as she goes to her chair.
TOUYA: High spirits today, kaijuu?
Sakura starts to glare at him, but grins.
SAKURA: I'll forgive you today.
TOUYA: Huh?
FUJITAKA: You really are in a good mood today, aren't you, Sakura-san?
SAKURA: Well, I'm going out with Tomoyo-chan today.
Fujitaka looks confused. Touya puts the chore board on the table.
TOUYA: You've got all the chores today.
SAKURA: Eh?
TOUYA: You wrote it yourself last week, and you forgot about it?
SAKURA: Hoe!
*** Flashback ***
Touya is doing the dishes.
SAKURA: Ummm.... Ummm.... Rika-chan has a piano concert.... I think I want to go and cheer her on....
TOUYA: I got it. I'll switch with you.
SAKURA, happily: Really?
TOUYA: You'll have to do all the chores next Sunday instead.
SAKURA: Okay!
Sakura goes to the board and adjusts it accordingly.
*** End Flashback ***
Sakura looks sadly at the chore board.
TOUYA: Well, then, I've got work.
SAKURA: Okay. I'll take care of this.
Fujitaka walks down the hallway carrying a basket full of laundry.
FUJITAKA: It's been raining lately, so a lot has piled up. Should I help you a little before I leave?
SAKURA: Otou-san, you have a conference today, right? It's all right! I'll do it!
FUJITAKA: Gomen ne.
SAKURA: I'll do it.
FUJITAKA: I'll put this on the washing machine.
SAKURA: Okay.
TOUYA: Itte kimasu.
SAKURA, less than enthusiastic: Itte rashai.
FUJITAKA: I'm going, too.
SAKURA, happily: Okay! Itte rashai!
FUJITAKA: Itte kimasu!
He leaves. Sakura leans against the wall and sighs. Sakura calls Tomoyo.
TOMOYO'S VOICE: Is that so?
SAKURA: Gomen nasai. I completely forgot that I have all the chores today.
TOMOYO'S VOICE: Well, it can't be helped.
SAKURA: Really, gomen ne.
TOMOYO'S VOICE: Don't let it bother you. Work hard on the chores.
SAKURA: Yep! Arigatou. See you at school tomorrow.
TOMOYO'S VOICE: Hai, tomorrow.
Tomoyo clicks off her phone and looks sadly at her picnic basket. Sakura hangs up and sighs.
SAKURA: I'll bring a letter of apology on Monday. [cheerfully] Now, let's get started!
She does the dishes.
SAKURA: Kero-chan, how's it going?
Kero is putting a load of laundry in the washer.
KERO: Yeah, yeah, just 'cause nobody's around.... Why should I have to do something like this?
Sakura vacuums and dusts. She is sweeping lint off the rug when she sees something sticking out from under it.
SAKURA: Hoe?
She pulls it out. It's a Clow card.
SAKURA: "Wood"? Tree? It's a Clow card!
Kero is inspecting the washer.
KERO: Huh? It stopped.
SAKURA: Kero-chan, Kero-chan!
KERO: What is it? Ahhh-ah-ah!
He falls into the washer and the lid closes.
SAKURA: Kero-chan, I found a Clow card!
She runs into the laundry room and looks around.
SAKURA: Not here.... Well, I'll show it to him later.
She puts it in her pocket and goes back into the hallway. Kero emerges from the washer, dazed.
KERO: I'm really whirling around today.... I've had enough!!!! This isn't something the strongest guardian beast should be doing.
Sakura is mopping nearby.
SAKURA: I got it! When I finish with this I'm gonna go for ice cream with Kero-chan!
Kero hears.
KERO: Well, no choice. I'll help her a little more.
Sakura carries the vacuum cleaner downstairs to the bookshelves.
SAKURA: All right. This is the last place.
She opens a window for light, then starts to vacuum under a table. The vacuum starts to make an odd noise.
SAKURA: Hoe?
She lifts up the sweeper, and sees a dirty card stuck to it.
SAKURA: Oh, no, it's covered in ink.... Wah! This is another Clow card! I'm lucky today, in finding two Clow cards! I'll have to wipe them off.
She puts both Clow cards on the table and runs off.
SAKURA: Towel, towel! Wet towel!
The phone is ringing upstairs.
SAKURA: Huh? Phone? Hai, hai, I'm coming!
She runs upstairs and picks up the phone.
SAKURA: Hai, Kinomo-
FUJITAKA'S VOICE: Sakura-san?
SAKURA: H.... Hai! Otou-san?
FUJITAKA'S VOICE: Would you please check to see if there's a blue envelope on the dinner table?
She checks.
SAKURA: It's there.
FUJITAKA'S VOICE: Would you mind bringing it to me at the bus stop? My entire presentation for today is in it.
SAKURA: Wah! I'm going right now!
She hangs up and puts her rollerblades on.
SAKURA: Kero-chan, I'm going out for a minute!
She leaves.
KERO: What's going on?
In the basement, the light from the window dissolves the ink on the Clow card, revealing it to be Rain.
*** Bus Stop ***
Sakura waves as the bus pulls away.
SAKURA: Itte rashai!
Fujitaka leans out the bus window, holding his blue envelope.
FUJITAKA: Arigatou!
Sakura sighs.
YUKITO: Sakura-chan.
She turns around and skates over to him, grinning.
SAKURA: Yukito-san!
YUKITO: That was your father, right, Sakura-chan? An errand?
SAKURA: Hai. He forgot something and....
YUKITO: And you brought it to him. How nice of you.
Sakura giggles, then looks at his uniform.
SAKURA: Uniform...?
YUKITO: Yeah, the basketball team had a game. I helped them out a little today.
SAKURA, thinking: Yukito-san doesn't really belong to any clubs, but sometimes they ask him to participate in games and he helps them out. He's clever and he can do anything...! Hanyaan!
She imagines flowers growing all around Yukito.
YUKITO: Hey, Sakura-chan, have you had lunch yet?
SAKURA: Iee, not yet.
YUKITO: Why don't we eat together over there?
She looks over at the restaurant to which he's pointing. A waiter looks at them. It's Touya.
SAKURA: Onii-chan?
*** Restaurant ***
Note: The restaurant's sign has a hamster on it, and words that say "Well come to HAMHAM." I have no idea why I noted this. I mean, duh, it's the "Hamtaro" anime, but why I care, I don't know. And what's with the spelling of "welcome"?
Sakura has an ice cream sundae, and Yukito has a huge plate of food. Touya brings another.
YUKITO: Arigatou.
SAKURA: Three extra-large servings....
TOUYA: This guy eats at least three times as much as I do.
SAKURA: Th.... Three times...?
YUKITO: You don't have to hold back. It's on me.
SAKURA: Well, Kero-chan's waiting at home....
YUKITO: Who's Kero-chan?
SAKURA: Well, I mean....
She giggles nervously.
SAKURA: It's good to eat a lot.... It's healthy.
YUKITO: It's hard on my allowance.
He laughs.
*** Street ***
Sakura skates around the corner.
SAKURA: Yu-ki-to-saaaaaaaan! Otou-san, arigatou! I got to see Yukito-san!
She reaches her house.
SAKURA: Tadaima!
She sees that Kero has hung out all the laundry to dry.
*** Kinomoto House ***
Sakura enters her bedroom.
SAKURA: Kero-chan!
She sees him sleeping on her bed.
SAKURA Arigatou.
He rolls over.
SAKURA: I'll make lunch right away. Huh?
She hears something.
SAKURA: Hey, Kero-chan. Kero-chan. Kero-chan, wake up!
KERO, sleepily: What is it? Food?
SAKURA: Do you hear that sound?
KERO: "Sound"?
There is a crash, and Sakura grabs Kero in fear. They start to go downstairs.
SAKURA: Could it be a thief?
KERO: It sounds like it's coming from downstairs.
Sakura grabs a mop as a weapon.
SAKURA: It can't be a ghost.... Can it?
KERO: Ghosts can't appear in the daytime.
SAKURA: Maybe some do!
*** Downstairs ***
They look in the kitchen.
KERO: It's coming from the basement!
They listen at the basement door.
KERO: It's here.
SAKURA: Yeah....
She looks at Kero.
KERO: Now.
Sakura pulls the door open and looks inside. The basement is dark.
KERO: Huh? I don't see anything.
Suddenly, a branch comes out at them.
SAKURA: HOEEE!!!!
The entire basement is full of branches. Sakura throws the door shut, and two twigs break off the branch.
SAKURA: What was that?!
KERO: This is a tree branch.
SAKURA: How could something like that come out of the basement?!
The twig Kero is holding glows and disappears.
KERO: This is the work of a Clow card.
SAKURA: A Clow card? Now that you mention it, today...!
The branches push against the door.
KERO: Eh?! You didn't write your name on the Clow card you found and you just left it?!
SAKURA: But they were still cards when I found them and the phone was ringing, so....
KERO: That's bad! A Clow card will only obey you after you've written your name on it!
SAKURA: But they've been in the house this whole time and nothing's happened before now!
KERO: Hmmm. Wood's certainly a good-natured card, and it's unthinkable that it'd do anything nasty.
SAKURA: Then how come...?
Kero lets go of the door in order to think.
SAKURA: Wah! Kero-chan, don't let go!
A branch pushes the door open and wraps around Sakura's foot.
SAKURA: Hoe! Ah, Kero-chan, what should we do?!
Kero has been caught by a branch as well.
KERO: I'm in trouble, too! This thing...!
Sakura cries. The doorbell rings.
SAKURA: Hoe?
It rings again.
SAKURA, thinking: What do I do?
EYECATCH - Sakura
SAKURA: Who could that be?
KERO: "Who"? You'll know if you go and see.
SAKURA: If someone see us like this they'll spread rumors around town! They might think you're a talking nuigurumi and sell you somewhere!
KERO: No way.
The doorbell rings again.
SAKURA: H.... Hai!
KERO: Why did you answer?!
Sakura gasps and covers her mouth. The doorbell rings again.
SAKURA: I couldn't help myself....
KERO: For now, I....
He goes limp.
SAKURA: Kero-chan?!
KERO: Don't try to talk to a nuigurumi.
SAKURA: No fair! Agggggggh!
The branches force the door open and spread down the hall, taking Sakura with them. They stop growing with Sakura right in front of the door. She can see someone's silhouette looking in. She struggles to get out of sight, but the branches are too tight. Someone enters. Sakura hides her eyes in embarrassment.
SAKURA: Ummm...! This is...!
TOMOYO: Konnichiwa.
Sakura opens her eyes to see Tomoyo holding the picnic basket.
SAKURA: Tomoyo-chan!
TOMOYO: I wanted to help you with the chores.
She unwraps the branch from around Kero, then from around Sakura's foot.
TOMOYO: Were you doing some gardening?
SAKURA: That's not it. This is the work of the Clow card Wood.
TOMOYO: Ohhhh.
KERO: Sakura, capture it before it's too late!
SAKURA: Okay.
She holds out the key.
SAKURA: Release!
It does.
SAKURA: Return to thy true form, Clow card!
The branches disappear.
TOMOYO: So lovely, Sakura-chan!
Tomoyo films Sakura as she looks for the card.
TOMOYO: Is something wrong, Sakura-chan?
SAKURA: I don't see the card.
KERO: That can't be. It must be lying around here somewhere.
TOMOYO: Perhaps that room over there?
SAKURA: Oh, yeah, the basement!
KERO: All right! Let's go get the card!
SAKURA: Yeah! Huh?
There is a rumbling, and branches suddenly burst out of the basement.
SAKURA: Hoeee!
KERO: Sakura, upstairs!
They run up the stairs, pursued by branches.
KERO: Sakura!
They continue running out onto the porch. The branches come at them, but stop abruptly. They stretch toward the sky, and sprout leaves.
SAKURA: It looks like it's good-natured now.
KERO: It's happy to be bathing in the sunlight.
TOMOYO: That's to be expected of Wood-san.
The branches are wrapped around the laundry Kero had hung to dry.
KERO: Uhhhh! The laundry! We'll have to start all over again.
TOMOYO: Don't be so disheartened.
SAKURA: I'll help, too, okay?
KERO: Not all over again!
TOMOYO: But what shall we do about this?
SAKURA: If I try to capture it again, it'll just return to this state.
KERO: It's obvious!!!! We're gonna go to the where the card is and completely seal it.
SAKURA: Which means, to the basement?
KERO: That's right.
There is a rumbling sound.
SAKURA: That sound....
TOMOYO: It's like an elephant walking.
KERO: That's the house creaking! That means Wood is still growing!
SAKURA: But I thought it was good-natured right now!
KERO: It found sunlight outside the house. If the rest of the branches try to find sunlight, too, then....
TOMOYO: The house will be destroyed.
SAKURA: No way!
KERO: It's time for card captor Sakura!
Tomoyo films as Sakura steps into the house wearing a pink costume.
SAKURA: Hey, how come you brought something like this?
TOMOYO: Today in the park I was going to film "Sakura-chan Dances in a Jungle"!
Kero flies past eating a sandwich.
KERO: So you made this lunch, too.
The three of them make their way toward the basement. Kero goes ahead.
KERO: It looks like you'll be able to get through. This way. A little bit farther.
There is a rumble.
TOMOYO: Let's hurry.
SAKURA: Yeah.
Sakura leads the way down the stairs.
SAKURA: What's that sound?
TOMOYO: I don't know....
Sakura steps in water. The entire basement is flooded.
SAKURA: Hoe? Water?
KERO: There shouldn't be any water coming out of the Wood card.
SAKURA: Then what about the other card?
KERO: Nani?! There were two cards?!
SAKURA: Yeah.
KERO: So that means....
They look around. A small cloud is raining on some branches.
KERO: So Rain is here.
TOMOYO: Rain?
KERO: It's the Rain card. Rain and Wood affected each other and produced this jungle. Now, Sakura.
SAKURA: Okay.
TOMOYO: It's time!
She starts to film again.
SAKURA: Rain! Wood! Your mischief has gone far enough!
TOMOYO: Lovely.
KERO: Sakura! It's comin' towards you!
Rain is floating toward Sakura.
RAIN: Nyuuu!
It rains a little on Sakura.
SAKURA: Oh, it's no big deal.
Rain dumps a huge amount of water on Sakura. Sakura runs away.
RAIN: Nyuuu.
It follows.
SAKURA: Hoe!
KERO: Sakura, it's just playing! Capture it already!
SAKURA: But...!
She climbs over a bookshelf.
SAKURA: This way....
Rain continues to pursue her.
KERO: I know, Sakura! Use Watery to use the rainwater against it!
SAKURA: Watery? Oh, yeah! Card of Clow's creation, come to my aid! Watery! Water, become a chain that binds!
Watery sends a blast of water at Rain and traps it inside a bubble.
RAIN: Nyu, nyu, nyu!!!!
KERO: All right, we got it!
SAKURA: Return to thy true form, Clow card!
Rain is reluctantly sealed.
TOMOYO: You did it!
SAKURA: What's left is the one trying to destroy the house. Wood!
KERO: Wait a second!
Kero grins as the branches glow and disappear, leaving only the small Wood entity. Sakura walks over to Wood and holds out her hands. Wood becomes a card.
KERO: Just as I told you, it's a nice card.
SAKURA: So Wood and Rain are good friends!
KERO: Look at that!
Over near the open window is a rainbow.
KERO: It's a rainbow!
TOMOYO: It's pretty!
Sakura sits down at the table to sign the cards.
SAKURA: Sa.... Ku.... Ra.
KERO: The cards don't belong to you until you do this.
SAKURA: Hai, I understand now.
KERO: Well, then, I'm off to get some sleep.
SAKURA: Oyasumi. [to Tomoyo] I'm sorry about today.
TOMOYO: Iee! I'm glad I now have a video even better than I would've gotten at the park!
SAKURA: Ohhh?
KERO'S VOICE: Sakura! Big trouble!
Sakura and Tomoyo run upstairs and see that the house is a mess. Every room is in shambles.
SAKURA: This means I have to redo the cleaning....
TOMOYO: I'll help.
Sakura and Kero hug Tomoyo and sob joyfully.
SAKURA and KERO: Arigatou!
*** Later ***
TOUYA and FUJITAKA: Tadaima!
They see that the floors are spotless.
*** Sakura's Bedroom ***
They knock on Sakura's door, then poke their heads in. Sakura is asleep with Kero under her arm.
FUJITAKA: Thanks for doing all the chores today. Let's have cake later.
TOUYA: If you don't put your name on it, I'll eat it.
SAKURA, in her sleep: I'm sure I wrote my name on it....
She smiles.
CLOSING THEME MUSIC: "Groovy"
