CCS Episode 07 - Sakura's First Challenge as a Mysterious Thief?! OPENING THEME MUSIC: "Catch You, Catch Me" *** Art Gallery *** It's late at night at the art gallery. A guard scans the exhibits with his flashlight. He shines his flashlight on a painting of a woman clothed in black. A figure runs past the window and hides. The guard shines his flashlight at the window, but sees nothing. He walks on. TITLE SCREEN *** Sakura's Bedroom *** Sakura kneels at her bed with her sketchpad. Kero poses as she draws him. KERO, strained: Are you done yet? SAKURA: Just a little more.... Wait just a little more.... KERO, strained: My patience is wearing thin. SAKURA: It's done! KERO: Ohhh, how is it? Let me see. SAKURA: Here. She shows him the drawing triumphantly. KERO: Eh?! What is this?! SAKURA: Yeah! Didn't I draw you kawaii? The drawing is very cutesy and doesn't really look like Kero. KERO: My face isn't weird like that! Sakura looks carefully at the drawing. SAKURA: Are you sure? I think it really does look like you. KERO: No it doesn't! Take a good look! Sakura sighs and looks closely at his face. KERO: See how my eyes are really sharp and double-lidded? Note: Ewww. SAKURA: Ehhh...? KERO: And my legs are very shapely.... TOUYA, from downstairs: Sakura, dinner! SAKURA: Hai! She gets up and goes to the door. KERO: Hey, hey, hey, hey! You should listen until someone's done speaking, you know! SAKURA: Later, all right? She leaves. Kero is angry. KERO: Geeeeeez! He crawls over to the drawing. KERO: Really...? This, me? Unforgivable! *** Kitchen *** Sakura and Fujitaka are at the table. Touya is in the kitchen. SAKURA: It looks good! FUJITAKA: What were you doing upstairs? SAKURA: I was drawing a picture. We're going to sketch artworks at the art gallery for art class tomorrow. FUJITAKA: So you were practicing? SAKURA: Yeah! Touya brings a big pot to the table. TOUYA: That was pretty loud for just drawing a picture. SAKURA: Oh! That was.... I need to talk to draw well! TOUYA: If you do that at the art gallery, they'll kick you out. SAKURA: That wouldn't happen! FUJITAKA: But we have to make sure that we aren't bothering the other people who came to see the art show, right? SAKURA: Hoe? They'd really kick me out? FUJITAKA: Probably not, but.... Sakura sighs, relieved. *** Art Gallery *** Sakura's class is at the art gallery. CURATOR: I'm the curator of this art gallery. We will have everyone sketch the artworks on this floor and in the courtyard. SAKURA, whispering: Tomoyo-chan, this is a really quiet place, huh? TOMOYO: Yeah. It's relaxing, isn't it? SAKURA: You're right. CURATOR: Would those of you sketching in the courtyard please follow me? Most of the students follow the curator. SAKURA: Tomoyo-chan, where are you going? Tomoyo points to a large sculpture in the center of the room. TOMOYO: I was going to sketch the sculpture right here. Will you join me? SAKURA: Yeah! Sakura and Tomoyo sit in front of the sculpture with their sketchpads. They are the only ones still inside. SAKURA: I guess Chiharu-chan and everyone went outside. TOMOYO: Maybe the courtyard would have been better.... SAKURA: Nah! Let's draw! TOMOYO: Yeah. They open their sketchpads. Sakura looks closely at a page, then screams angrily. Terada runs up to her. TERADA: Geez! He shushes them. SAKURA, embarrassed: Sumimasehn.... Kero has re-drawn her sketch in red pencil and written, "The real me looks like this." at the bottom. SAKURA: Kero-chan did this. Sakura and Tomoyo are working on their sketches. Sakura examines her somewhat abstract drawing. SAKURA: I'm done! How about you, Tomoyo-chan? She looks over at Tomoyo's sketch. Hers is a very realistic oil painting. SAKURA: A.... Amazing! Huh? She sees Chiharu waving at her from outside. SAKURA: Tomoyo-chan, do you want to go out to the courtyard for a while? TOMOYO: I'm going to finish up my picture. SAKURA: Then I'm going to go for a bit. She gets up and walks around, trying to find the exit. She stops in the hallway with the painting of the woman in black clothes. A small boy with a hat is doing something to the painting. Note: It's a long time before Yuuki's name is revealed, so I'll just call him "Yuuki," despite the fact that, in the past, I've waited for names to be revealed before calling characters by them. SAKURA, to herself: I wonder how you get to the courtyard. GUARD: Hey, what are you doing?! YUUKI: Let go! He and the guard struggle. GUARD: Why would you want to damage a painting? YUUKI: I wasn't trying to damage it! The guard indicates the scraping tool in Yuuki's hand. GUARD: Then what is this? YUUKI: That's Papa's painting! Papa painted me, but somebody changed it! Someone drew in that woman! GUARD: That's impossible. Yuuki wriggles free and runs back to the painting. GUARD: Hey! Wait! YUUKI: You...! The woman in the painting glows, and raises her finger to her lips. An intensely bright light comes from the painting. Sakura sees the guard and other people in the gallery speak but doesn't hear their words. The light fades. GUARD: Be quiet. He takes Yuuki's hand to lead him away. The tag falls off Yuuki's case as the guard lifts it. GUARD: Now come this way. After they leave, Sakura steps toward the painting. She reads the title on a plate beneath the painting. SAKURA: "'The Smile' - By Tachibana Tenkai." Hoe? She picks up the dropped tag. Tomoyo comes up behind her. TOMOYO: Sakura-chan. SAKURA: Eh? TOMOYO: It's time to meet up with everyone. SAKURA: Yeah. She looks at the tag, which reads, "Grade 2, Group 2. Tachibana Yuuki." *** Street *** Sakura's class has gathered by the road. TOMOYO: One of the paintings moved? SAKURA: Yeah. And then I couldn't hear anything. It was just for a second, but.... You don't think it could be..?! The tragic death of an unfortunate artist, causing a curse.... Or something like that...? The painting's probably cursed and that's why...! TOMOYO: Was it really so terrifying? SAKURA: At the time, it wasn't scary at all. TOMOYO: Sakura-chan, you're sensitive to monsters and ghosts, right? So maybe it's.... You know? SAKURA: Ah! A Clow card! Tomoyo nods. TOMOYO: But let's make sure. SAKURA: Yeah! The rest of the class has crossed the street. SAKURA: Wah! *** Kinomoto House *** It's nighttime. Sakura jumps out her window and into a tree. YUKITO: Sakura-chan? SAKURA: Hoe? Yukito is at the front door, about to knock. YUKITO: Kon ban wa. SAKURA, nervously: Yukito-san. YUKITO: What are you doing out here so late at night? SAKURA: Ummm...! Ummm...! Oh! I was thinking.... I'd watch.... The moon...! Yukito laughs. YUKITO: There are lots of stars out, too. Is Touya here? SAKURA: Hai! He's here. She jumps down from the tree. SAKURA: Ummm, onii-chan.... YUKITO: You're asleep upstairs, right, Sakura-chan? I won't see you again tonight, right? SAKURA, blushing: Yukito-san! YUKITO: But don't stay out too late. SAKURA: Hai! *** Street *** Sakura rollerblades down the empty street. She sighs, then giggles, then sighs again. Kero's head pokes out of her backpack. KERO: Up and down! Well, aren't you busy! SAKURA: Do you think he thought I'm naughty? [blushes] But he was worried about me! But! But, but! KERO: How idiotic. Hurry up, Tomoyo's waiting. SAKURA: Yukito-san. *** Tomoyo's Van *** Sakura, Kero, and Tomoyo stand in her costume van. TOMOYO: "Silent"? Does that mean there's no sound? KERO: That's right. It's a card that hates noise. SAKURA: That's why it's in a quiet place like the art gallery. TOMOYO: And what strengths does Silent have? SAKURA: The only thing that happened this afternoon was the sound disappeared. KERO: That's not all it can do. If it says "Shhh," at the same time sound disappears.... SAKURA: At the same time? KERO: Well, I don't know for sure. Sakura falls over. SAKURA: And you're really a guardian beast?! KERO: Well, it doesn't talk much so I haven't been able to figure out its personality! Sakura sighs. TOMOYO: Sakura-chan, let's change now! SAKURA: I knew it.... After Sakura changes into a blue and black costume with bat wings, Tomoyo gets out her camcorder. SAKURA: It's a little less flashy than usual, huh? TOMOYO: Yeah! Because a mysterious thief mustn't be noticed. SAKURA: But I'm not stealing anything. TOMOYO: But you are sneaking into a high-security art gallery. You must dress appropriately. She takes out a piece of paper. KERO: What's that? TOMOYO: This is the schedule for the art gallery's night watchmen. SAKURA: Amazing! How did you get that? TOMOYO: After we left, I went back to the art gallery and borrowed it. SAKURA: Hoe! TOMOYO: According to this, a watchman will be patrolling the area with the painting in exactly one hour. We don't have any time to lose! SAKURA: Yeah! TOMOYO: To be safe, let's set the alarm five minutes early. She programs her watch alarm to go off in 55 minutes. TOMOYO: Then let's start the mission! *** Art Gallery *** Sakura, Tomoyo, and Kero sneak in the back of the gallery. They creep up the stairs, and they all gasp when they hear a crash. They run to the railing and look at the floor below. A figure had fallen down and is getting up. It's Yuuki, but they don't recognize him. They duck down out of his sight. SAKURA: What's he doing? TOMOYO: This is suspicious. KERO: We must seem pretty suspicious, too. TOMOYO: He's probably come to steal an artwork! SAKURA: A thief, then?! What should we do? We can't just ignore this! TOMOYO: Let's scare him away! She reaches for something in her bag. KERO: What are you going to do? Tomoyo holds up a flashlight. TOMOYO: This. KERO: Huh? SAKURA: Hoe? EYECATCH - Sakura Yuuki creeps past a large sculpture. KERO, exaggerated scary voice: Who are you? Yuuki flinches and looks around. KERO: What are you doing here? Hurry up and leave! Yuuki holds his scraping tool like a weapon. YUUKI: W.... Who is it? You're over there, aren't you? He looks toward where Sakura, Tomoyo, and Kero are hiding. KERO: He's got guts, huh? He's not running away. SAKURA: Hey, that voice just now.... TOMOYO: It sounded like a child's voice. KERO: I have no choice. Let's do it. TOMOYO: Hai. YUUKI: Come out! Tomoyo shines the flashlight on Kero, throwing his huge shadow on the sculpture. KERO: All right, listen up! Tomoyo moves the flashlight and Kero's shadow gets bigger. KERO: I am the guardian god of this place! Leave now! Yuuki is trembling, but still wields his scraper. YUUKI: What?! A guardian god? You're the one defacing the art, aren't you? Yuuki walks toward their hiding place. SAKURA: He's coming this way! TOMOYO: This isn't quite how we planned it, is it? YUUKI: Don't move from that spot! He peeks over the edge of the wall they're hiding behind. Kero leaps out at him. KERO: Gah-ooh! Yuuki screams and jumps back. He backs into a pedestal with a vase on it. Yuuki sinks to the floor, eyes closed, and Kero catches the vase before it falls on him. Sakura and Tomoyo run to Yuuki and shine the light on him. TOMOYO: It is a child after all. SAKURA: Ah! This kid.... Tomoyo turns off the flashlight. TOMOYO: Do you know him? SAKURA: Today, here.... Kero strains to hold the vase up. KERO: Hurry up and help me! They put the vase back on the pedestal and wait for Yuuki to wake up. He slowly opens his eyes. TOMOYO: He's coming to. Yuuki flinches and tries to sit up. SAKURA: Are you all right? Yuuki sees Kero in Sakura's hand and jumps up, screaming. SAKURA: Don't jump to conclusions. It's just a nuigurumi. YUUKI: But, but just now...! SAKURA: That was ventriloquism. She squeezes Kero's head and moves her lips with each syllable he speaks, making it look like she's speaking for him. KERO: We thought it was a thief. Forgive us! YUUKI: What a weird face. And what a waste of fear. Sakura laughs nervously. YUUKI: I'm not a thief. What are you guys doing here, anyway? If you're the ones who defaced the painting, I won't forgive you! SAKURA: We didn't do anything like that! TOMOYO: We're just kawaii mysterious thieves. We wouldn't do something like that. Sakura looks at Tomoyo. YUUKI: Mysterious thieves?! Then...! SAKURA: That's not it! I just came to get something I left here earlier! YUUKI: Then why are you dressed like that?! SAKURA: Uhhh, this, ummm.... TOMOYO: It's her hobby. YUUKI: I guess it's all right as long as you aren't the ones who defaced the painting. Well, I'm in a hurry, so.... He turns and starts to walk away. SAKURA: Ah, wait a minute, Yuuki-kun! Yuuki stops and looks at her. YUUKI: How do you know my name? Sakura gives him his tag. YUUKI: So that's it. Oh, then.... SAKURA: Yuuki-kun, were you really trying to destroy that painting? YUUKI: I wasn't trying to destroy it! I was trying to put it back the way it was! Papa painted it. My papa is an artist named Tachibana Tenkai. TOMOYO: I've heard of Tenkai-sensei. He's created so many lovely paintings. But, if I remember correctly.... SAKURA: Huh? They look at Yuuki, who is crying. YUUKI: Last fall he got sick and died. He made that painting last summer, on our last family vacation with Papa. *** Retrospect *** Yuuki runs on the beach with a dog. A man leans out a window and shouts to him. YUUKI, narrating: Papa wanted to capture the memories of the beach by painting me. Yuuki runs to the window and smiles as the man sits at his easel. YUUKI, narrating: Even Mama says it's her favorite painting, but.... *** Reality *** YUUKI: Someone painted over that painting! Over the memories of me and Papa! He cries. SAKURA: That's awful! I know just how you feel! I was really angry when someone scribbled all over my art, too! Note: Sakura, you drama queen. Always got to be about you, doesn't it? Kero sweatdrops. SAKURA: Yuuki-kun, we'll help you. YUUKI: I can do it myself. KERO: What?! When someone...! Sakura covers his mouth. SAKURA: Ventriloquism! See? She squeezes Kero's head with each syllable again. KERO: Don't say that. Let's do it together! YUUKI: Do whatever you want, just don't get in my way. KERO, under his breath: Nasty kid. TOMOYO, worried: We've taken up more time than I thought we would. Let's hurry! SAKURA: Yeah. They creep down the hallway toward the painting. Yuuki walks ahead of Sakura and Tomoyo. SAKURA, to Kero: I can't use magic in front of Yuuki-kun. KERO: And we know we can't scare him away.... TOMOYO: You can do it while I talk to him. [winks] Right? SAKURA: Yeah. They reach the painting. TOMOYO: Is it this one? KERO: It's definitely Silent. SAKURA: Yeahhh.... YUUKI: The defaced part is still new. Since it's an oil painting, I should be able to take it off if I do it gently. SAKURA: You know a lot about this. YUUKI: I want to be an artist like Papa. SAKURA: I'm sure you will be. Yuuki laughs, embarrassed. Sakura nods to Tomoyo. TOMOYO: But Yuuki-kun, restoring an oil painting is really difficult. YUUKI: Huh? Sakura sneaks toward the painting while Yuuki is distracted. TOMOYO: You should let the art gallery people take care of it. YUUKI: I'd never leave it to those people! TOMOYO: Are you sure it'll be all right? Sakura winks at Tomoyo behind Yuuki's back. YUUKI: If it's possible at all, I can fix it myself! Sakura starts to raise her wand, but gasps when Silent moves her finger to her lips. TOMOYO: If you keep talking so loud, the watchman...! There is a sudden bright light, and when it fades, they are on the other side of the window, out in the courtyard. SAKURA: Huh? The courtyard? YUUKI: It happened again.... Whenever I get close to Papa's painting, I'm suddenly outside. TOMOYO, whispering: It's Silent's power, isn't it? KERO: When you make too much noise, you get kicked outside. SAKURA: Hoe. I'm glad this didn't happen in the daytime! YUUKI: Can you believe this?! I thought if it were a ghost, I'd be all right in the daytime, but that didn't work. What should I do? SAKURA: A ghost? She laughs and walks to Yuuki. SAKURA: Hey, Yuuki-kun, I think this happened because you made loud noises in both the daytime and the nighttime. So maybe if you're really quiet, the ghosts won't do anything. YUUKI: So I'll be all right as long as I don't make any noise? SAKURA: Right. YUUKI: But if it's a ghost in the painting, I won't be able to take it off. SAKURA: Are you going to leave, then? Yuuki shakes his head and points down the courtyard. YUUKI: No. We can get back in through there. They sneak back down the hallway. KERO: Even if you use magic, we can fool him by saying it's just the ghost. When they reach the painting, Yuuki opens his case and puts on a headlamp. He drops a tool, and it clatters loudly on the floor. YUUKI: Ah! SAKURA: Ah, no! TOMOYO: No! With just that sound...? Silent glows and they sigh in defeat. They sneak back down the hall. As Yuuki gets things out of his case, Sakura holds up a sign reading, "Do it quietly!" Tomoyo holds up another sign, reading "We don't have much time." Sakura nods, and Kero sneezes. Yuuki looks at Sakura, and she pretends to sneeze. They shush her, and look at the painting. It glows. They are back in the courtyard. YUUKI: Crap. SAKURA: I only sneezed. KERO: At this rate, you can't even recite your spells. TOMOYO: There must be another way. Her watch beeps. YUUKI: I'll do it alone. He runs off. SAKURA: Wait, Yuuki-kun! She starts to run after him, but Tomoyo grabs her arm. TOMOYO: The watchman will be here! If you get caught, too, what can you do about Silent? Yuuki runs down the hall, and is stopped by the guard. GUARD: Who is it?! Yuuki continues toward the painting. GUARD: Hey, you, wait! The guard chases Yuuki to the window of which Sakura and Tomoyo are outside and grabs his arm. SAKURA: He's caught! KERO: We're in trouble, too. TOMOYO: Let's hide! They hide behind a sculpture. SAKURA: We have to help him! YUUKI: Let me go! Let go! GUARD: You, from this afternoon! SAKURA: What can we do? She notices their shadows as they struggle. SAKURA: That's it! Shadow, project me through the glass! Shadow! YUUKI: The ghost! GUARD: Calm down! Shadow projects Sakura's shadow next to the guard and Yuuki. SAKURA: Ready.... [raises her wand] Set.... She separates the guard and Yuuki with her shadow. Yuuki runs away. GUARD: Hey! Wait! The guard runs after him. SAKURA: I did it! TOMOYO: I knew you could. SAKURA: And the only thing left is.... She raises her wand. SAKURA: Return to thy true form.... The light of the window doesn't reach the painting, so neither does her shadow. SAKURA: Huh? TOMOYO: Here. She turns on her flashlight. SAKURA: Arigatou. Return to thy true form, Clow card! Her shadow seals Silent. Sakura picks up the card, and flashes the V-for-Victory. TOMOYO: It was a big success, wasn't it? SAKURA: Yeah! They watch the guard search for Yuuki. GUARD: Where did he hide? Damn, that kid.... He shines his flashlight on the painting and gasps. GUARD: Huh?! This?! Outside, Sakura, Tomoyo, and Kero gasp, too. The guard whines in fright and runs away. GUARD: It's an emergency...! The painting's changed! Sakura and Tomoyo giggle. Yuuki comes up. YUUKI: I couldn't do it after all. The guard caught me. SAKURA: That's not true. Look! Tomoyo shines the flashlight on the painting. YUUKI: Huh? It's of Yuuki, but with long hair and no hat. Yuuki gasps happily and runs to the window. Her hat falls off, revealing long hair. YUUKI, thinking: It's back to normal, Papa! SAKURA: You're a girl! I'm sorry I called you "Yuuki-kun." YUUKI: Nah, I'm sorry, too. TOMOYO: Long hair looks really kawaii on you. [to Sakura] Right? SAKURA: Yeah. Yuuki looks embarrassed. *** Street *** Yuuki waves goodbye. SAKURA: Take care! TOMOYO: Good luck! YUUKI: Onee-chan, arigatou! Thanks so much! Bye-bye! Yuuki runs off. SAKURA: She was trying so hard for her father's memory. Not Yuuki-kun, Yuuki-chan. TOMOYO: Yeah. KERO: A child's love for her parents.... It's a nice story, isn't it? SAKURA: Kero-chan, you're so cool! TOMOYO: You're so tasteful. KERO: Heh. TOMOYO: Everything's complete. "Mission accomplished!" KERO: But what made you think to use Shadow? SAKURA: I remembered your Shadow, Kero-chan. Someone is watching them from the top of a nearby building. KERO: If that's so, then it's all because of me! The person is a boy in Chinese clothing, with a glowing board in his hands. BOY: The presence of a Clow card.... CLOSING THEME: "Groovy"
