CCS Episode 08 - Sakura's Rival Appears!

OPENING THEME MUSIC: "Catch You, Catch Me"

*** Dream ***

Sakura is dreaming of Tokyo tower.

SAKURA: This dream.... I've seen it before.

She sees a boy in a Chinese costume standing on a building near the tower. He is speaking, but she can't hear him.

SAKURA: Who...? It's not me?

The boy leaps off the building and falls gracefully down.

*** Sakura's Bedroom ***

Sakura clutches her ears and thrashes around as she lies in bed. Kero flies over to her.

KERO: Hey, Sakura, what's wrong?

He gets up close to her face.

KERO: Hey, Sakura! Sakura!

She wakes up. When she sees Kero's face from so close, she shrieks and bats him away.

KERO: Sakura! You were tossing and turning in your sleep. I was worried.

SAKURA: Gomen, gomen! It's because I had a strange dream.

KERO: A strange dream?

SAKURA: I've had it before.... The dream of Tokyo tower at night. But this time, a boy with Chinese clothes appeared.

KERO: Chinese clothes?

There is a knock at the door. Kero pretends to be stuffed and falls over limply. The door opens. Touya enters.

SAKURA: Onii-chan?

TOUYA: I heard you tossing and turning. I thought I also heard your voice.

He looks around, suspicious.

SAKURA: On.... Onii-chan....

She casually picks Kero up and puts him on her shelf.

SAKURA: It was nothing. I just had a strange dream.

TOUYA: Oh, so that's it. Then I did hear the screeching of the kaijuu.

Sakura throws her pillow at him, but he shuts the door before it reaches him.

SAKURA: What did you say?!

Kero relaxes. Touya reenters.

SAKURA, angrily: What is is?!

TOUYA: Breakfast is ready, so hurry up and come downstairs.

He leaves, looking suspiciously at Kero.

TITLE SCREEN

Sakura pushes her window open and looks up at the sky.

SAKURA: Ohhh. I'm not a kaijuu.

KERO: About that dream you had.... Because you have a lot of magic, Sakura, your dream.... It may have been a prophetic dream.

SAKURA: A prophetic dream?

KERO: That boy in Chinese clothing.... You may meet him in the near future.

SAKURA: Eh?

*** Outside ***

Touya is outside waiting for Sakura on his bicycle.

FUJITAKA: Sakura-san! You'll be late!

SAKURA: Hai!

She finishes putting on her rollerblades and pads and skates after Touya, who has just left.

SAKURA: Wait, wait, wait!

FUJITAKA: Itte rashai.

SAKURA: Itte kimasu! Ohhh!

She rounds the corner and sees Touya.

SAKURA: Oh, there you are! Wait!

She catches up to him.

TOUYA: You ate too much for breakfast.

SAKURA: But...!

TOUYA: Oh, Yuki!

Yukito is waiting for them at the next corner.

YUKITO: Ohayo!

They walk together. Sakura watches Yukito as he rides his bike next to her.

YUKITO: Did you have pleasant dreams last night?

SAKURA: Hoe? Dreams?

TOUYA: It didn't sound like it. You could hear her deafening screeches all the way from my room. It sounded like a kaijuu.

SAKURA: Onii-chan!

YUKITO: Was it a bad dream?

SAKURA: Iee.... It was more like a strange dream.

YUKITO: Hmmm.... You know, there are such things as prophetic dreams.

SAKURA, thinking: Hoe? Just like what Kero-chan said....

YUKITO: Actually, I had a prophetic dream last night, too. I dreamed that I had broiled fish for breakfast. Then we really did have fish. I ate seven bowls of rice.

Sakura stumbles.

*** Classroom ***

She and Tomoyo are standing near their desks.

TOMOYO: You look happy this morning, Sakura-chan.

SAKURA: Yeah! This morning I came to school with Yukito-san.

TOMOYO: Well, that's good, isn't it?

Sakura pulls something out of her pocket.

SAKURA: I got this.

She remembers Yukito tossing her something.

YUKITO: See you later!

Sakura remembers looking at what Yukito threw. It's a candy.

TOMOYO: Tsukishiro-san always has something to eat, doesn't he?

SAKURA: Yeah. Yukito-san eats a lot.

TOMOYO: It's good to be healthy.

Rika enters.

RIKA: Ohayo!

TOMOYO: Ohayo gozaimasu!

Terada enters.

TERADA: Homeroom has begun!

The students sit down.

TERADA: Everyone seems to be present.

He glances at Rika. She smiles at him. He coughs.

TERADA: Today I will introduce a new transfer student. Please come in.

TOMOYO: How strange, to get a transfer student at this time of year.

The new student, a boy, enters. Sakura looks frightened. He stares at her angrily. She sweatdrops.

SAKURA: Hoe? Hoeee....

TOMOYO: Sakura-chan, is he staring at you?

Terada has written the boy's name on the blackboard.

TERADA: Li Syaoran. He is from Hong Kong. Everyone get along with him, now. And as for your seat.... There. The desk behind Kinomoto's is empty.

Sakura whimpers. Syaoran walks back to her desk and glares at her.

TOMOYO, politely: Your seat is right here, if you please.

He lifts his chin disdainfully and sits down. He continues to glare at Sakura.

SAKURA, thinking: Some.... Something.... In his stare is painful.

*** Later On ***

A teacher is reading a story aloud to Sakura's class.

TEACHER: And his soul was moved. Sometimes there were things he couldn't help but tell someone. "I want to express this in an essay. How can I express this wonder? First...."

Syaoran is still staring at the back of her head.

SAKURA, thinking: How come? I've never met this boy before. Why? Why? Why?!

*** Hallway ***

The bells ring. Sakura rubs her forehead.

SAKURA: So tiring....

Someone puts a hand on her shoulder.

SYAORAN: One minute.

She grimaces.

*** Outside ***

Syaoran and Sakura are standing in a secluded corner of the schoolyard near a fence.

SAKURA: Ummm.... What?

Syaoran is holding a board with kanji on it.

SYAORAN: Gyokuten yuujkoku shinken shiho. Kinmouku suikado. Daifuu laiden shinchyoku. Gyokuten yuujkoku shinken shiho. Kinmouku suikado. Daifuu laiden shinchyoku. Keima hekileki denkouden. Kyuu kyuu ryoumitsuryo!

A light bursts out of the board and shoots toward Sakura.

SYAORAN: I knew it! You have Clow cards, don't you?!

SAKURA: How...?

SYAORAN: This Rashindan was made to find the Clow cards. Out with them!

SAKURA: What?

He holds out his hand.

SYAORAN: The Clow cards.

SAKURA: I can't! I promised Kero-chan.... That I'd capture all the cards!

SYAORAN: "Kero-chan"? Do you mean Cerberus, the guardian beast?

SAKURA: How did you know...?

SYAORAN, distressed: If Cerberus is here, why is he letting this kid keep the cards?

SAKURA: Kero-chan doesn't have enough magic. He can't get big. That's why....

SYAORAN: The cards with Cerberus' sun symbols of fire and earth power him. You don't have either of those cards?

SAKURA: No....

SYAORAN: How long have you been searching for them?

SAKURA: Since September....

SYAORAN: You've been looking for them for two months and you still haven't captured all of them?

SAKURA: That's true, but.... Hey! How do you know about the Clow cards?!

SYAORAN: That's none of your business. I'll capture the remaining Clow cards! Hand them over!

Sakura puts her hands on her pocket to protect the cards there.

SAKURA: No! I can't! This is between me and Kero-chan.

SYAORAN: I see. So they're in that pocket.

He walks toward Sakura. Tomoyo comes around the corner looking for her.

TOMOYO: Sakura-chan?

She gasps when she sees Syaoran trying to take the cards out of Sakura's pocket against her will.

TOMOYO: Sakura-chan!!!!

SYAORAN: Hand them over!

Touya leaps over the fence.

TOUYA: You! What are you doing to my sister?!

SAKURA: Onii-chan!

Syaoran leaps away from Sakura and goes into a fighting stance. Sakura sinks to the ground. Tomoyo runs to her.

TOMOYO: Are you all right?! Sakura-chan?!

SAKURA: Nandemonai.... But what about onii-chan?

TOUYA: I've never seen that stance before. Is it Chinese martial arts?

EYECATCH - Sakura

Yukito runs up to the group.

YUKITO: Hey! I found it!

He leaps over the fence carrying a paper bag.

YUKITO: I have nikkuman! Here.

TOUYA: Yuki?

YUKITO: They still had some at the booth. There were also pizza nikkuman, curry nikkuman....

Syaoran is distressed by the interruption.

Note: I'm actually not sure just when it goes from being "you interrupted the fight" to "ohmigosh, i'm blushing. i'd better run away." maybe it was always the latter. I dunno.

YUKITO: Do you guys want some, too? Since there's five nikkuman....

SAKURA: H.... Hai....

YUKITO: Ummm, one, two, three, four.... [noticing Syaoran] Five! Exactly.

He walks over to Syaoran.

YUKITO: Here! Nikkuman.

Syaoran blushes, whimpers, and runs away, tripping.

SAKURA: What is going on?!

Tomoyo is equally baffled.

*** Street ***

Sakura, Tomoyo, and Rika are walking down the street.

RIKA: I'll leave here.

SAKURA: Yeah. See you later.

TOMOYO: See you tomorrow.

Rika runs off down a side street.

SAKURA: Hoe? Rika-chan's house isn't that way, is it?

TOMOYO, whispering: She went to buy a present.

SAKURA: Huh?

TOMOYO: Someone's birthday is today.

SAKURA: Whose?

TOMOYO: The person she likes.

SAKURA: Hoe?

TOMOYO: Rika-chan likes an older person, too!

She slaps Sakura's back.

TOMOYO: Good luck to you, Sakura-chan!

She giggles and walks ahead. Sakura looks bewildered.

SAKURA: Hoe? [realizing] Hoeee!

*** Park ***

TOMOYO: Did you ask Kero-chan about the transfer student?

SAKURA: No. I tried to call him, but he didn't answer. Kero-chan is always alert until he goes to sleep, but once he's asleep he won't wake until a specific time.

Note: No clue what Sakura is saying. I guess she means Kero keeps a very strict sleep schedule.

TOMOYO: That sounds like Kero-chan.

Thunder rumbles.

SAKURA: Aiyahhh? It's thunder!

TOMOYO: I hope we don't get caught in the rain!

She and Tomoyo run for cover.

SAKURA: Hoeee!

They go into the shelter created by the penguin slide.

TOMOYO: Let's wait out the rain here.

Thunder and lightning continue. Sakura looks out at the sky.

SAKURA: Aiyah? It's not raining....

A bolt of lightning strikes a streetlamp. The light bulb glows. The lighting strikes all the streetlamps. An electrician runs away screaming. Suddenly, the sky becomes clear.

*** Sakura's Bedroom ***

SAKURA: Kero-chan! Kero-chan!

Kero is floating in his sleep and drooling sparkles.

SAKURA: Don't just half-sleep! Wake up! Today was awful!

Se takes a deep breath.

SAKURA: KERO-CHAN!!!!

He shrieks and flies into the wall.

*** Later On ***

Kero and Sakura are having tea.

KERO: Li Syaoran? I guess that's a member of the Li family.

SAKURA: The Li family?

KERO: My master Clow Reed's father was an Englishman and his mother was Chinese. So Clow's magic is both Western and Eastern magic. For example, the magic circle you use has both English and kanji, right?

SAKURA: Yeah.

KERO: Clow created the magic that you use now, Sakura. In old times, almost anyone could do most things as long as they followed the rules. Only a few people in the world had the power to create new kinds of magic.

SAKURA: Clow-san was a really special person, wasn't he?

KERO: Well, he had a lot of problems....

SAKURA: Problems?

KERO: Ah, iee.... The Li family is part of Clow's mother's family. In China, they were a powerful family of priests.

SAKURA: So, that kid...?

KERO: Is probably one of Clow's distant relatives. I heard a rumor that the Li family had moved to Hong Kong. I guess it was true.

Sakura has taken out the cards.

SAKURA: Hoe! Then I should have given him these cards after all!

KERO: That's wrong!

He flies over to her desk and levitates the card book up out of it.

KERO: Sakura, you opened this book and awoke me. As I told you when we first met, this book has a protective spell upon it and it takes a lot of magic to open it. You have the right to use these cards. And these cards have your name written on them, don't they? You're the keeper of the cards, Sakura!

The cards have flown up and around Sakura. She smiles happily. Her phone rings.

SAKURA: Hai, moshi-moshi!

TOMOYO: Sakura-chan!

SAKURA: Tomoyo-chan!

TOMOYO: The sky.... Please look at the sky!

Sakura pulls up her blinds and looks outside. The sky is pitch-black and thunder is rumbling.

SAKURA: I see what you mean, Tomoyo-chan. It's just like it was earlier.

*** Outside ***

Sakura is wearing a pink and black costume with cat ears.

TOMOYO: Since today we are dealing with thunder, I made it with all rubber-based material so you wouldn't be electrocuted.

Kero indicates the pink material.

KERO: And this fabric?

TOMOYO: That is also non-conductive fabric.

KERO: And why a cat?

TOMOYO: Because it's kawaii.

*** Tomoeda ***

A bolt of lighting moves across the sky and lands on rooftops.

KERO: That's Thunder!

TOMOYO: That seems appropriate, doesn't it?

SAKURA: Fly!

She and Kero fly after the bolt. Tomoyo films her.

TOMOYO: You look so heroic!

KERO: That boy you were talking about earlier.... You said he has the Rashindan?

SAKURA: Yeah. A wooden board with a lot of writing on it.

KERO: Clow told me that he left the Rashindan with his mother's relatives. That kid might sense Thunder and come here, too. Let's make sure we capture it first, all right?

SAKURA: Yeah! I'll do my best!

The both gasp as the bolt heads straight for them. They narrowly avoid it, and it turns around and tries again. Sakura and Kero land on a rooftop.

SAKURA: What do I need to do to turn it back into a card?

KERO: First, we have to get it back into its previous form, or....

SAKURA: Previous form?

KERO: Here it comes!

SAKURA: Jump!

She jumps from rooftop to rooftop just ahead of the bolt. She finally lands on the school clock tower.

SAKURA: But what is Thunder's previous form?

KERO: Thunder is really....

SYAORAN: You don't even know something as simple as that?

Sakura and Kero gasp. Syaoran is standing just below them on the tower. He's wearing green robes, just like the ones Sakura saw the boy in her dream wearing.

SAKURA: Li-kun?!

He draws his sword.

SYAORAN: Thunder shorai kyuu kyuu ryoumitsuryo!

A blast of electricity come from Syaoran's sword and stops the bolt before it reaches them. It falls onto a rooftop, howling and screeching. Syaoran leaps gracefully down to the rooftop. Sakura gasps.

SAKURA: Just like in my dream....

Thunder has returned to its previous form: a glowing, bear-like creature.

SAKURA: It's scary-looking!

SYAORAN: You have to return Thunder to its form as thunder beast before you can capture it. You didn't even know that?

KERO: I was just about to explain that.

Sakura takes out a card.

SYAORAN: Baka. You can't fight Thunder with Windy.

SAKURA: But Windy's restrained cards so I could capture them before.

KERO: Because I was in Kansai so long, it's okay to call me silly, but I will not be called "baka"!

Note: Sorry. I dunno what he means by "Kansai." I don't even know if it's really supposed to be a proper noun or not.

SYAORAN: Do you have the Shadow card?

SAKURA: Yeah.

SYAORAN: Thunder shorai kyuu kyuu ryoumitsuryo!

He zaps the beast again. It howls.

SYAORAN: Now!

Sakura takes out the Shadow card.

SAKURA: Shadow!

It wraps up the thunder beast.

SAKURA: Return to thy true form, Clow card!

Sakura picks up both cards off the ground.

SYAORAN: So that's the wand of capture...? But you really don't know anything, do you?

KERO: Hey! Don't expect the impossible! Sakura hasn't been capturing cards for very long!

Syaoran hadn't noticed Kero before.

SYAORAN: What is this?

SAKURA: That's Kero-chan.

SYAORAN: Nani?! This.... This is the guardian beast, Cerberus?! The most powerful guardian entity, with the eyes of gold is...! This nuigurumi?

Kero bites Syaoran's finger.

SAKURA: Kero-chan!

Syaoran growls and shakes Kero off. They glare at each other.

SYAORAN: Anyway, with your level of experience, it'll be impossible for you to capture all the Clow cards.

He walks off, passing Tomoyo, who scoffs at him.

TOMOYO: Sakura-chan, you aren't hurt at all?

Sakura looks sad.

TOMOYO: Sakura-chan....
