CCS Episode 09 - Sakura and the Mysterious Brooch

TITLE SCREEN

OPENING THEME MUSIC: "Catch You, Catch Me"

*** Hallway ***

It's morning. Tomoyo sees Sakura walking ahead of her and she grins. Sakura, however, looks dejected. Tomoyo races to catch up to her.

TOMOYO: Ohayo gozaimasu!

SAKURA: Ohayo, Tomoyo-chan.

TOMOYO: You don't look very cheerful, Sakura-chan. Did you get enough sleep?

SAKURA: Y.... Yeah, I guess so....

TOMOYO: Is last night still bothering you?

Sakura frowns as she remembers Syaoran fighting the Thunder card.

SYAORAN, in past: You have to return Thunder to its form as thunder beast before you can capture it. You didn't even know that?

SAKURA, in past: Uh.... Um....

Thunder had growled at them and Sakura had taken out the Windy card.

SYAORAN, in past: Baka. You can't fight Thunder with Windy.

TOMOYO: But you did capture the Thunder card, and it's your destiny to be the world's only card captor, Sakura-chan! Your're doing just fine.

SAKURA: It.... It's not that big a deal, really....

She remembers picking up the Thunder card from the ground.

SYAORAN, in past: So that's the wand of capture? You really don't know anything, do you? Anyway, with your level of experience, it'll be impossible for you to capture all the Clow cards.

Sakura frowns.

SAKURA: But if Li-kun hadn't helped me, I don't know what would have happened....

*** Classroom ***

TOMOYO: Ohayo gozaimasu!

SAKURA: Ohayo!

RIKA: Ohayo, Sakura-chan.

SAKURA: Rika-chan, ohayo.

Sakura walks away, and Rika looks questioningly at Tomoyo, who smiles. Sakura looks out the window. Suddenly, Rika puts a flower in front of her face.

SAKURA: Hoe?

RIKA: Sakura-chan, you don't seem to be feeling too well.

SAKURA: Rika-chan.... Wah-hah! Arigatou!

Rika smiles and walks away.

SAKURA, thinking: Rika-chan is so grown-up and kind. She's so wonderful!

Sakura looks at the flower. Syaoran enters, and Sakura sweatdrops.

SAKURA: Uh.... Ummm! Arigatou.... For yesterday.... It was because you told me those things that I was able to capture the Clow card....

SYAORAN: If you're trying to capture the Clow cards, that's the least you should know.

SAKURA: Ah, ummm, yesterday.... Those clothes were really cool-looking, you know? Does everyone in Hong Kong wear clothes like that? Ummm, in my dream I saw a boy wearing that green outfit. That's why I was so surprised- Hoe?

Syaoran stands up abruptly.

SYAORAN: Those were the Li family ceremonial robes. There's no way you could have seen them before.

SAKURA: I didn't know anything about them, I just.... In my dream....

SYAORAN: So you're saying that your power is strong enough to give you prophetic dreams?

SAKURA: Uh....

TOMOYO: Ummm...!

Takashi approaches.

TAKASHI: Li-kun.

SAKURA: Yamazaki-kun!

Takashi holds up an eraser.

TAKASHI: Since you just moved here, it's your turn to be classroom monitor.

SYAORAN: "Classroom monitor"?

TAKASHI: Yeah. The classroom monitor does things like clean the chalkboards, write the day's information on the board, and during recess you sing and dance.

Sakura cringes and Tomoyo giggles.

SYAORAN: This is what they do in Japanese schools?

TAKASHI: Yep.

SAKURA, to Tomoyo: Are we supposed to sing and dance?

TOMOYO: Nope.

TAKASHI: Anyway, let's get you started cleaning the chalkboards!

He leads Syaoran away, and Syaoran starts to erase the board.

TAKASHI: After this you can sing.

SYAORAN: Yeah.

*** Dream ***

Sakura is dreaming of Tokyo tower.

TOMOYO'S VOICE: Sakura-chan.

SAKURA: Who is it? Who is it?!

*** Classroom ***

TERADA: Kinomoto!

Sakura opens her eyes to see him looming over her desk.

SAKURA: Agggh!

TERADA: Not enough sleep last night?

SAKURA: Ummm, that's, ummm...!

TERADA: Well, then, make sure you get a good night's sleep when you get home tonight. That's it for homeroom today. Then, class is dismissed!

The students leave.

GIRL: Sensei, sayonara!

TERADA: Do your homework, okay?

GIRL: Hai!

BOY: Sensei, sayonara!

TERADA: Be careful.

SAKURA: It was that dream again....

She notices Rika staring at Terada.

TOMOYO: Is something wrong?

SAKURA: N-nope, nandemonai!

Syaoran pushes out his chair noisily. Sakura turns around. He leaves, and she sighs.

TOMOYO: It makes you nervous, having Li-kun right behind you, doesn't it?

SAKURA: Yeah.

TOMOYO: Oh! Do you have any free time today, Sakura-chan?

SAKURA: Yep. I don't have to make dinner tonight. Otou-san's getting home from work late, and onii-chan has his part-time job.

TOMOYO: Rika-chan has found a really neat new store. Do you want to come with us?

SAKURA: Arigatou. You're trying to cheer me up because I've been feeling sad today, aren't you? Arigatou.

TOMOYO: I only want the chance to spend more time with you, Sakura-chan.

She imagines Sakura standing in flowers. Takashi interrupts her reverie by sticking a mop in their faces.

TAKASHI: Shopping's nice, but do it after you've finished cleaning the classroom.

SAKURA: H.... Hai.

*** Shop ***

Sakura, Tomoyo, and Rika approach a small shop.

RIKA: This is it.

SAKURA and TOMOYO: Wah-hahhh!

They go inside. The shop is full of antiques and dolls.

RIKA: Do you like stores like this, Sakura-chan?

SAKURA: Yeah!

Rika smiles. Sakura runs over to a lamp.

SAKURA: It's so full of wonderful things!

She runs off.

TOMOYO: Sumimasehn, for inviting Sakura-chan without telling you. But she was feeling sad today.

RIKA: Nah, don't worry about it. I was worried about her, too.

They look at a glass case of brooches.

SAKURA: Kawaii!

TOMOYO: They're really kawaii, aren't they?

SAKURA: Ah!

She picks up a brooch.

TOMOYO: I think that'd look very good on you, Sakura-chan.

The brooch is a red heart with gold wings.

SAKURA: I'd like to get it, but.... But.... Uhhh....

RIKA: Are you going to get it?

SAKURA: Yep! I just got my allowance. But I guess I won't be buying any snacks for a while.

Tomoyo picks out a silver brooch shaped like a cross.

TOMOYO: Then I'll get this one.

RIKA: That's really kawaii!

TOMOYO: I've been wanting a brooch, too.

RIKA: Then I'll choose this one.

She picks out a brooch.

TOMOYO: That's a pin brooch, isn't it?

Note: Is there another kind...?

SAKURA: I think it'll look really nice on you, Rika-chan!

Rika's brooch is shaped like a sword with wings on its hilt.

*** Sakura's Bedroom ***

Kero is playing a video game as Sakura enters.

SAKURA: Kero-chan, I have guests so you can't come downstairs.

KERO: I got it, I got it.

He loses his game.

KERO: OH-OH-OH-OH-OH-OH!!!!

*** Living Room ***

Sakura carries a tray of tea to the living room.

TOMOYO: May I help?

SAKURA: Nah, please have a seat.

RIKA: Gomen ne, for bothering you right before dinnertime.

SAKURA: Onii-chan and otou-san are going to be late today.

TOMOYO: I'll pour the tea.

Rika reaches for a teacup. She and Tomoyo smile at one another.

SAKURA: Arigatou.

She gets three puddings out of the refrigerator.

RIKA: It looks delicious!

SAKURA: Otou-san made them. Shall we eat?

They pick up their puddings.

ALL: Itadakimasu!

Rika tries hers.

RIKA: Delicious!

TOMOYO: Your father is a really good cook.

Sakura smiles. They open the packages containing their brooches. Sakura tries hers on.

TOMOYO: It's kawaii. That was a very kawaii store.

SAKURA: Next time, let's invite Naoko-chan and Chiharu-chan.

RIKA: Yeah!

Rika puts her brooch on.

SAKURA: That looks really nice on you. Rika-chan, you're so grown-up and pretty. These things always look good on you.

Rika seems to be ignoring her and looking at her feet.

SAKURA: ....Rika-chan?

Rika looks up. Her eyes are blank.

SAKURA: Rika-chan!

The brooch glows. When the light fades, Rika is holding a full-size sword. She thrusts it toward Sakura, and Sakura dives out of the way.

EYECATCH - Sakura

Rika thrusts the sword at Sakura.

SAKURA: Rika-chan!

She backs into the wall, and Rika drives the tip of the sword into the wall next to her head. Sakura yelps and runs to the front door. She fumbles with the handle as Rika runs at her. The door opens and Sakura dives through it.

TOMOYO: Sakura-chan!

Kero flies down the stairs.

KERO: What is it, what is it? I feel the presence of a Clow card!

He sniffs.

KERO: Ah! I smell pudding! And I wasn't here!

TOMOYO: Forget about the pudding, Sakura-chan is...!

*** Street ***

Sakura avoids Rika's sword.

SAKURA: Rika-chan! Rika-chan!

Kero flies out the front door.

KERO: Sakura!

Tomoyo follows.

SAKURA: Rika-chan is...!

Rika holds up the sword, and it glints.

KERO: That's....

Sakura ducks out of the way of another thrust.

KERO: The Sword card!

SAKURA: Rika-chan's never taken fencing! How come...?

KERO: The Sword card gives the bearer the skills of a fencing master. Her consciousness is taken over by the sword.

SAKURA: Oh, no!

Rika prepares to strike at Sakura.

TOMOYO: Watch out!

Sakura somersaults out of the way. She stiffens her lip and takes out the key.

SAKURA: Key which contains the forces of darkness, reveal thy true form before me! I, Sakura, command thee under contract! Release! Jump!

Her socked feet sprout wings. She leaps over Rika and starts to run down the street.

KERO: It'll be bad if the sword hits you! The strength of the sword is dependent on the strength of the bearer's soul. Don't think it can't hurt you! It'll slice through flesh, and, if the bearer wants...!

Sakura leaps out of the way of another strike and lands on top of the wall along the street, behind a street sign. Rika jumps up and slices the sign neatly in half.

KERO: ...It can even cut through rock!

SAKURA: But I can't attack Rika-chan!

KERO: You better hurry up.

SAKURA: But, but, I can't attack Rika-chan!

Rika jumps up and slashes at Sakura. The sword is delflected by Syaoran's. Sakura looks up to see him on the wall next to her.

SAKURA: Li-kun!

SYAORAN: You.

She frowns and he jumps down to the street. He takes a fighting stance.

SAKURA: Don't!!!!

She jumps down and grabs his arm.

SYAORAN: What are you doing?!

KERO: Sakura!

Rika comes at them. Sakura jumps out of the way, bringing Syaoran along with her. They land in a bush.

TOMOYO: Are you all right?!

SAKURA: Yeah. But Rika-chan....

SYAORAN: Just a second later and we would've lost!

SAKURA: But you can't hurt Rika-chan!

They glare at each other.

KERO: If we could get her to let go of the sword for just a second, everything would be okay.

Sakura runs toward the street.

TOMOYO: Sakura-chan!

KERO: What's happening?!

SAKURA: Take care of Tomoyo-chan and Li-kun!

Rika walks toward Sakura.

SYAORAN: That baka.

Kero bites his hand.

KERO: Shut up and watch!

Sakura holds out the Illusion card.

SAKURA: Become the face of this person's most beloved! Illusion!

The silhouette of a man appears. It leans over Rika as she stares in awe.

RIKA: Sensei....

KERO: Sakura, now!

Sakura runs toward Rika and bats the sword out of her hand. Rika starts to collapse, and Sakura holds her up with one hand while holding up her wand with the other.

SAKURA: Return to thy true form, Clow card!

Sword is sealed.

KERO: All right!

TOMOYO: She did it.

Rika is unconscious in Sakura's arms.

SAKURA: Rika-chan! Rika-chan!!!!

SYAORAN: She's just unconscious.

KERO: Sakura caught this card all by herself, you see!

SYAORAN: The Sword card creates mischief. It's one of the easiest to capture.

KERO: What was that?!

Kero clamps his teeth onto Syaoran's finger.

SAKURA: Kero-chan!

TOMOYO: Sakura-chan, footsteps!

SYAORAN: Let go!

SAKURA: Someone's coming! Kero-chan, go to my room!

Kero flies off, but not before knocking Syaoran over. The person approaching is Yukito.

YUKITO: Is Touya here? I came by to return the CD I borrowed.

He notices Syaoran lying on the ground and Rika unconscious in Sakura's arms. Sakura whimpers. Yukito notices the tiny bite marks on Syaoran's finger and takes his hand gently.

YUKITO: Are you okay?

Syaoran blushes and runs off.

*** Library ***

Rika is reading. Sakura approaches.

SAKURA: Rika-chan.

RIKA, happily: Sakura-chan! I'm sorry about fainting yesterday. But I really don't remember anything after putting on the brooch.... Isn't it weird?

Sakura holds out a small wrapped package.

SAKURA: Here.

Rika takes the package and looks at Sakura.

RIKA: Can I open it now?

Sakura nods. Rika opens the package and looks questioningly at her.

RIKA: This is the one you bought, Sakura-chan.

SAKURA: I tried really hard to find yours, Rika-chan, but I couldn't find it, so....

RIKA: Don't worry about it. It's my own fault, really.

SAKURA: But, but! I really want you to have it, Rika-chan.

Rika looks uncertain.

SAKURA, thinking: The brooch that Rika-chan bought is back in the card and I can't give it back! But I can't tell Rika-chan and I can't explain all this!

RIKA: Arigatou. I'll take good care of it.

SAKURA: Hoe? [thinking] She noticed that I was really worried about it and she isn't asking me to explain.... I knew Rika-chan is very grown-up and kind. She's wonderful!

Sakura turns to see Terada entering.

SAKURA: Wah-hah! Ohayo gozaimasu!

TERADA: Ohayo.

Sakura runs past him and out of the library. Rika smiles.

*** Courtyard ***

Touya is sitting in a tree and Yukito is standing beside it.

TOUYA: Nani? That gaki was hanging around my house?

YUKITO: He went home really fast, though.

TOUYA: I guess I'll have to beat him up for this.

YUKITO: So you've chased off all the kids who got close to Sakura-chan like this before now.

TOUYA: I'm the only one who can mess with her.

YUKITO: I knew you had a sister complex.

TOUYA: Shut up.

Sakura runs across the schoolyard carrying something. Yukito looks at Touya's watch.

YUKITO: It's almost time to see Sakura-chan. What does she want?

TOUYA: She said that she wanted to give you something. And for playing messenger, she said she'd cook dinner tonight.

YUKITO: Taking advantage of your sister again, eh?

A flaming card comes out of nowhere and lands on Touya's arm. He gasps and pats the fire out. Syaoran is standing on top of the chain-link fence across from him.

TOUYA: You.

Sakura runs up.

SAKURA: Sorry for keeping you waiting!

She frowns when she sees Syaoran and Touya glaring at each other.

YUKITO: Sakura-chan, you wanted to see me?

SAKURA: Ummm, thank for helping us carry Rika-chan yesterday! This is just to say thank you.

She gives him the package she's been holding. Syaoran gasps.

YUKITO: Really? Arigatou. Oh, it's chocolate! I love sweets! It looks good.

Syaoran rummages in his pockets.

YUKITO: For yesterday, don't mention it.

Syaoran runs over to Yukito.

TOUYA: Wait-!

Syaoran holds out a package of chocolate balls.

SYAORAN: T.... This is...!

YUKITO: For me?

Syaoran nods, gives him the package, and leaps over the fence.

YUKITO: Arigatou!

TOUYA: What did you get?

YUKITO: Chocolate. Do you want some?

Tomoyo runs up.

TOMOYO: Sakura-chan!

SAKURA: Tomoyo-chan?

TOMOYO: Since I couldn't film yesterday's card capture, here's a present for you instead. [whispering] It seems that Li-kun likes Tsukishiro-san, too.

SAKURA: Ehhhh?!

Tomoyo steps back and starts to film.

TOMOYO: He's your rival in capturing cards and in love, too!

SAKURA: Hoeee!
