This fortnight, Melbourne's five-piece Sneak take their blend of energetic
rock and heartfelt melodies to East Timor to play for the Australian Peace
Keeping Forces.
Sneak flew out of Darwin on the weekend on a Hercules C130 and will perform
in front of over 1300 Australia troops that still remain in East Timor.
Having just played a spate of dates across NSW and VIC with Taxiride and
Irwin Thomas, and supporting Midnight Oil on their historical final tour late
last year, this trip to East Timor will provide a completely unique platform
for Sneak to showcase songs from their debut album "Still Life Moving",
which was released late last year.
Every 'Tour De Force' trip, an Australian band gets the opportunity to contribute
as civillians to the local defence force community in East Timor and this
month sees Sneak as the invited guests by the Australian Army Band, Melbourne.
The performances take place over a variety of locations, and often taking
in school and hospital visits for the local people of East Timor.
The first tour of this kind occurred over the 1999/2000 Christmas period,
the sole purpose being to entertain the five thousand soldiers serving in
East Timor as part of the United Nations Peace Keeping Force. The concert
was held at Dili Stadium, and boasted such stars as John Farnham and Kylie
Minogue.
Not only will Sneak undoubtedly encounter an amazing life experience from
their visit to East Timor, but these performances play an extremely important
role in elevating the morale of the military personnel posted far from their
families and friends. As a musician (member of the Australian Army Band, Melbourne)
Nicolas Buff puts it,
"if as a band we can bring some joy to our soldiers, then I feel our
job will be done."
In more Sneak news, Melbourne's Nova 100 features "It's Ok" in their Buzz Bin this week (following last week's 'Made In Melbourne') and upon their return from East Timor Sneak will head up to the NSW/VIC border to join the Channel [v] Music Bus for a performance in Albury/Wadonga on Thursday March 13th where Sneak will perform tracks from "Still Life Moving" including their inspirational new single "It's Ok".
