Michael Bennett traded to KC
With the uncertainty of the status of RB Priest Holmes for this season, KC decided to trade for RB Michael Bennett. According to reports, this does not mean that Holmes is planning on retiring, but rather than KC covering their butts if Larry Johnson suffers an injury during the season. So those of you that select LJ, and you want to insure your first round pick, will need to remember the name Michael Bennett this season.
Willie Roaf retires.
The massive Pro Bowl OT is hanging up his cleats and shoulder pads for the final time. And what a career he has had, a really fantastic journey. But looking forward, what does this all mean to the other Chiefs that are still uniform? QB Trent Green might feel additional pressure from defenses, now that his offensive line is minus one Pro Bowler. TE Tony Gonzalez may have to help this offensive line and remain there to block rather than running his route and catching a potential pass. And RB Larry Johnson might not get those huge holes to run through anymore. In terms of fantasy, how does this all equate? RB LJ is still a top 3 pick, most likely the top overall selection. TE Gonzo struggled last season with his stats when he had to perform more blocking duties, much like he may encounter this season. I would slide Gonzo down from #2 to either 4 or 5. And QB Green, he was probably the #10 ranked QB before this news broke, now it seems he will be a solid #2 for a fantasy team.
Brian Finneran out for the season
Brian Finneran, Atlanta’s 3rd WR, will be sidelined all season with a torn ACL. Finneran, most likely, would not have been drafted in many drafts, but there is an impact here. Finneran, a veteran, with good hands and TE Alge Crumpler were 2 of QB Michael Vick’s “reliables” on passing situations. Also note that Crumpler had knee and shoulder surgery in the offseason and has been taking it lightly in camp so far to date. Vick may have to turn to young wideouts Michael Jenkins and Roddy White this year, both former 1st round draft picks. Even though this offense is prone to run more often then pass, I would move both of these WR slightly up on your rankings with this news. But make note, they should both still be drafted for your bench.
