My reason for wanting to pursue a career as an Early Childhood Educator
is that I can help expand and cultivate the minds of young children, as they
become creative, critical thinkers. I
believe that Early Childhood Education is a vocation, something I was called to
do. It took many years to discover
the many talents and gifts I possess, for example, my knowledge of computers,
cooking, love of animals, and gardening. Patience
and humility are also traits that I possess and are essential to success as an
educator. As much as I love to do
all these things, the financial rewards that lay ahead are also attractive.
I discovered during my youth
that I love working with children. When
I would travel or frequent places where there where many children, they seemed
to always be attracted to me- they would smile, wave, or acknowledge me in some
minor way. When I baby-sat children, they never wanted to go home. More
importantly, I noticed that when I helped children with their problems and
homework, I was able to make an impact that many times their parents were unable
to make. I enjoy seeing what
makes children respond and learn differently than adults.
Knowing the happiness and joy they feel and seeing the happiness in their
eyes is priceless. Thinking of this
combination of factors is what opened my feelings about Early Childhood
Education. My goals as an educator
are to get children to open their minds and see that the sky is the limit.
Children must know that they must reach beyond the stars to be successful in
life!
