While vacationing in Texas in 1971, Dick Coakley , a Farenholt shipmate, saw the USS Farenholt on the Sabine River near Orange, Texas. He took this photo and then went over and touched her. DD491 was purchased by the Lunia Brothers of Cleveland, Ohio. Later it was towed to Brownsville, TX, dismantled, and sold to the Mexicans for scrap.
