A CORPUS OF THE FARTHEGN COINS | ||||||||||||||
What follows is a collection of over 50 silver pennies minted by royal moneyers named Farthegn. These coins represent just a fraction that were really minted, however. The others have been lost or were recalled for reminting. Two coins appear on each page, one above and one below. The image on the left shows the obverse side with the king's name. The image on the right is the reverse side of the same coin showing the moneyer's name. I have listed the king's name that appears on each coin, the years that he reigned, the mint location (if shown on the coin), and the moneyer's name. I have replaced the Old English letters "eth" and "thorn" with the letters "th". Ruler: Edgar(959-975) Mint: Uncertain Moneyer: Spelling of Farthegn's name is FARTHEIN. |
