Dark Scandinavians, continued
Below:  a farmer from western Norway.
Below:  A Norwegian with brown hair and brown eyes.  Although brown eyes are always in the minority in Scandinavia, there are some areas in western Norway where more than one-third of the population have brown eyes.
Below are  statements from a Scandinavian forum:

- "I just got a picture of my great, great grandmother......She has dark, dark hair and eyes...Some of her kids in the picture have white hair and some of the others look dark, almost like Native Americans."

- "Being a Native Norwegian I can confirm that many of us have dark hair, dark eyes and look very different from the Blond Viking Stereotype.....If you look at the population of Norway 20-30 years ago you would probably find almost 50/50 of blonds and darks.  Today the 'Darks' are increasing."

- "Near where I live in Norway there are many very dark people, looking almost as if they are from the Mediterranean areas......"

- "Dark hair and eyes are more common in western Norway......My mother is very dark, when she was younger she almost looked like an Indian.  Of 4 children, I'm the only one with blue eyes."

- "My great Uncle Leif had jet black hair and dark eyes, some people thought he was a native or something."

- "My dad has dark eyes, jet black hair, tall, wide shouldered, but I am blonde and hazel-eyed."
This digression on "dark Scandinavians" is to show that the idea of the tall, blond-haired, blue-eyed Scandinavian is just a stereotype.  Millions of native Scandinavians and people of Scandinavian descent have dark hair and brown eyes.  In fact, blond hair is possessed by only a very small minority of the world's population. And, one geneticist predicts that, even in Scandinavia, the recessive gene that carries blond hair is expected to eventually become extinct.  Read on.
