Archaeological Artefacts in Migration Period England, the hard evidence of migration |
Archaeological studies have shown that extensive and significant connections between England and Scandinavia in the Migration Period involved more than just trade, but settlement, also. The map below illustrates some of the many things that England and Scandinavia had in common during this period: 1) They both have the same art styles, especially "Style I". Anglian England and Norway also share the "bichrome style". 2) Clasps of Classes A - C. 3) Square-headed brooches. 4) Relief brooches. 5) A-, C-, and D- bracteates. 6) Cruciform brooches. This map is from John Hines' brilliant study The Scandinavian Character of Anglian England in the Pre-Viking Period. |
