History: The name itslef describes the game as much of our games do. This a highly complicted pasttime of fatcamp members. Originally started on a typical Friday night when the boys had nothing to do but throw a billard ball back and forth on JB's pool table. Location: Ideally played on JB's pool table, but any pool table will do. Not a good idea that you ask the pool shark at the local night club to play though. It could get nasty Game Itslef: As stated above it's basically throwing the 8 ball from one end of the table to the other. First off there are 2 players. Both stand at the same end of the table. There are two referees on the opposing sides. The reason for 2 referees is because there tends to be a large amount of favortism between the fatcamp crew (mainly all against stew) so to correct this problem Fat Camp instituted the 2 referee system and it works quite nicely. Now that you are ready to start, (which always seems to take fatcamp a while to do) the game goes like this: Each player is given the same amount of billiard balls. The referee (alternate) drops the eight ball in the middle of the table and when he says start, the players can start firing away at the eight ball. This process continues until eventually one of the players sink the eight ball into one of the pockets. The referee must first confir with his partner before making any official decision. This prevents any pre-empted celebration from the players. Once the result is announced there is no restriction on how much a player can celebrate. And believe me it's a good feeling to kick that tubby's ass. Rules: As with most fatcamp games the rules seem to overshadow the actual fun taking place in the game itself and for 8 ball hit down bring up it's no different. The most important rule is that if anyone touches the eight ball with their game hand (which is not hard to do) they are automatically disqualified from the game and possibly the tournament. This is as harsh as they get kids so watch out. The next rule is that if a player wins his game in regular arcade mode than he, as they say "Owns the table". That means that the winning player stays on until he loses. This is not the case in tournament play though. There is a best of seven format which must be strictly followed. Also another rule is that there must be quality music in the background that both players mutually agree is acceptable for 8 ball play. Once the ball is down firing must commence immediately and if it does not and one of the players game hands gets in the way then there is another disqualification of that match which will mean the victory is rewarded to the injured player. Negatives of the Game: It can only be played around close friends you love and trust. The disabled list of injured players seem to be rather high around the broken thumbs and bruised index fingers. Tournament play rarely solves the true champion as disqualifications seem to take over the game. Isiah Thomas has yet to recognize the game as a potential hot spot for a younger audience. Carl makes up too many useless rules. Fun Points (Out of 10): 7 |
