Well, this comic was originaly part of a large online role play between me and my friend Diana. It started with mainly characters based from previously existing manga and anime, and has slowly evolved into what it is today.
Who does what? Well, the roleplay obviously was done back and forth, but the comic is a bit different. After giving writting a try I decided to focus more on my art. Diana on the other hand has always been gifted when it comes to creating a story. Since I decided to create an online comic, I chat with her so that we see eye to eye on the basics for the main idea of the story. She always helps when I get stuck somewhere and can't make the story continue.
This comic though isn't our original role play so it's been a bit difficult adjusting the characters. The idea for Freash Start Cafe came from the art class I've been taking over in San Francisco. The Art Academy offers a class in comic book illustration, and I decided if I ever wanted to even think about creating comics, I should grab onto any training I could find. And thank bob my teacher is a god! Seriously! His name's Walden Wong and he not only has done inking for DC comics such as Superman comics - like the recently re-released Superman Red Son (which I recently bought and I recomend to everyone) but he's also on the Shounen Jump team and works for VIZ. My class had a higfh percentage of students that drew manga style and he knew exactlly what to teach us so that we could advance in our artwork, and make it more pleasing to the eye. Durring the class, we had to come up with a story so that for our project, which was to draw, ink and letter our own page from a comic (which is actually quite large, and then after the image is complete the artist sends it in and it's shrunk down by 67% and is now comic book size.) I had my story line from my role play... but there were so many main characters... So, Diana (who came along since she was visiting for my birthday) suggested I use our two romantically involved male characters, Cameron and Ida. From these we debated on what the story should be about. Eventually I had an idea for a story... which is now Fresh Start Cafe. It envolved a princess who was essentially a joke, and two young men who come together because of her. The basic outline has been played with a tweaked a bit here and there untill it is it's current form.
I hope by the end of this comic, I've developed my skills well enough to publish my own comic.
