An Interview with Tracy McGrady:
WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE MUSICAL ARTIST?
Jay-Z.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE MOVIE? IF SO WHICH ONE?
I would have to say my favorite movie is Scarface. I am big into Mafia movies.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE ACTOR AND/OR ACTRESS? IF SO, WHO ARE THEY AND WHY?
My favorite actor would have to be Chris Tucker. I just really like his style. As for actress Halie Berry. She just does a great job of playing her roles.
WHEN WE ARE GROWING UP WE TEND TO SAY I WOULD LIKE TO MEET SOMEONE FAMOUS. WHO WAS THAT PERSON FOR YOU AND WHY? HAVE YOU MET THEM? IF SO, WERE THEY EVERYTHING YOU EXPECTED?
Magic Johnson. I just felt like he was a great basketball player. I know everyone else liked Michael Jordan and Larry Bird, but I always wanted to meet Magic because he was 6'9", had a lot of heart and he did not play above the rim. I just thought his play separated him from other players. I met him for the first time when I was in high school. Magic was exactly what I expected: he was cool and very down to earth.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO WHEN YOU'RE NOT PLAYING BASKETBALL?
Chill. I hang out with the family, travel, sleep and just relax.
IF YOU COULD PLAY A ONE ON ONE GAME WITH ANY ATHLETE, WHO WOULD IT BE? WHY?
I would play against Michael Jordan because of his competitiveness. I played against him both my rookie year and this last season. The first time I was intimidated because it was MJ, the best player in the world and I was just this 18-year-old kid that always liked his game and admired what he did on the basketball court. That first time I played against him I really did not do too well because I was so nervous. After that I was like forget it, everyone puts on their shoes the same way and I just needed to go out and show him that I am not intimidated.
IF YOU COULD ADD, DROP OR AMEND ONE NBA RULE, WHICH ONE WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
I would have to drop the 3-second rule on defense. This is a man's league and a man's game. If you can't defend someone without having to play a zone you shouldn't be playing. Once you get to this level it is basically one-on-one, and you have to hold your own.
DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL GAME-WINNING SCENARIO (THREE-POINTER AT THE BUZZER, BLOCKING A SHOT TO SEAL A VICTORY, ETC.).
I just ran off 15 straight points to put our team back into the game. We are down by 1 and there is about 10 seconds to go. I have the ball and I am isolated at the top of the key. I break my man down and the defense collapses on me. I kick it to one of my guys and they hit a three, and that is the ball game.
HOW WOULD YOU CATEGORIZE YOUR STYLE OF PLAY?
I am versatile player, a player who is not one dimensional, someone who can do it all - pass, rebound, play defense, get my teammates involved, just do it all.
WHEN YOU LEAVE THE GAME OF BASKETBALL WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE BEST REMEMBERED FOR?
On the court I want
to be remembered as a great player and winner. Off the court I want to be thought
of as a great person with a great personality, a humble person.
