Fayuca is a 3-piece band made up of drums, bass and guitar. Their influences range anywhere from sublime’s soulful bass riffs to a more space filling, hard-hitting RX Bandits styles of drum beets. The drummer, Rafael Ruiz, says some of his greatest inspirations have come from other drummers like Travis Barker (Blink 182), Chad Sexton (311), and Christopher Tsagakis (Rx Bandits), which can be heard in their songs. Fayuca started in Sept. of 2000, as a group of young teens with different ideas on what music should sound like, and from all this diversity a different sound was born. You see, Cisco (Bass) is the more “chill”, layback side of the band. Some of his greatest influences are bands like Slightly Stoopid, Sublime, Pepper, Sly and Robbie, and a much more layback Bob Marley, A sound which can be heard in his mellow but at the same time uplifting bass lines. Gabriel (Guitar/Vocals) in the other hand is the more “play it fast & Ska it up” side of the band. His philosophy is, “ When nothing else works, just throw some Wah & Delay, and it will all sound great”. Some of Gabriel’s greatest ideas come from listening to bands like RX Bandits, Authority Zero, Rise Against & Cultura Profetica. All of which has combined perfect to blend with Raf’s crazy beets and Cisco’s “BADD ASS bass lines”. If you’re still wondering what Fayuca’s sound is like, just check out some of their MP3s, or better yet. Come check them out at their next show. |
