ORAL BIBLE BOWL cont.

It is important to note that the procedure outlined is to be followed for all levels of competition.

For each game you will need:
- One quiz person, who reads the questions and a judge of the answers
- Two judges listen to evaluate the reading of the questions and the answers
- One score keeper
- One time keeper

The quiz person will determine who will play first for the alternating question system. Each team is given a letter name (Team A or Team B) and each quizzer a number and the letter for identification.

The quiz person secretly selects a number between 1-10. Each coach selects the number closest to that of the quiz person, without going over, is the first to play.

The Alternating System begins and applies only to the first ten questions. The first question is directed to the team who is chosen to begin, i.e. Team B. Team B then has five seconds to buzz in. The timekeeper will identify the team member by their team letter and number i.e. B-4. B-4 is allowed to answer and the points are awarded if correct. If incorrect, the ruling is made and the opposing team (A) is give five seconds to buzz in and give their response. Points are then awarded if a correct answer is given. Note: No points are given or taken from team B for the incorrect response.

Question #2 is now directed to the other team (A) and the same rules for answering apply.

Questions 11-20 use the Toss Up System. When a question is asked, the first quizzer to press his button and is identified by the timekeeper will have the first chance to answer.

After the timekeeper identifies the team and calls the quizzer's letter and number, the quizzer must give an answer. The quizzer has 30 seconds to complete the answer.

If the answer is correct or incorrect, the quiz person shall announce the decision. If the answer is incorrect, the other team has 5 seconds to buzz in and answer to the same question.

Please note: if the judges cannot hear your answer it is a wrong answer.

All quizzers need to speak loudly and clearly.

If no quizzer responds within 5 seconds after the question is read, the question will be closed by the calling of "time" by the time keeper, and the quiz person goes on to the next question.

If the quizzer thinks the answer needs to be changed, quizzer must
say correction and start from the beginning.

The play continues using the Toss up system until all questions are completed. The two judges may be called to assist the quiz person to rule on answer to the question . All conferring should be done privately and a decision announced publicly by the quiz person, who is the head judge. The judges' role is to monitor the game and record responses correct and incorrect.

If an interruption occurs when the quiz person speaks a part of a question or word, the quiz person shall stop reading the question immediately. After proper identification, the quizzer who interrupted the question will answer it. If not answered correctly, a 10 point deduction is given to the team and then the question is re-read in its entirety to the opposing team, allowing them the five second opportunity to buzz in to answer the question within 30 seconds.

When an uninterrupted question is answered incorrectly, after the quiz person's ruling, the opposing team has the opportunity to answer. The question is not repeated for that team, the team member must respond by buzzing in within 5 seconds and completing the answer within 30 seconds.

If a quizzer responds out of turn and stops before completion of the answer, the team is given a warning and the correct team member is allowed to answer the question. If a team member responds out of turn again and answers correctly, full point value is given to the other team who should have responded. If on this second time, the team member answers incorrectly and interrupted the question, 10 points will be deducted from his team's score.

A warning may be given the first time there is any response from the team members, substitutes, or coaches, which might hinder or help the quizzers in answering the question or a 10 point deduction may be given. This is the judges' decision. There is no talking among team members and from the audience during the competition. If a team member is helped, he will not be permitted to answer the question. For any subsequent occurrences, 10 points will be deducted from the team that caused the occurrence and they will not be allowed to answer the question.

Other procedures:

1. Official Time Outs.

During all official time outs, quizzers may confer among themselves and their coach. This ruling applies only to the team requesting the time-out.

A. Each team is permitted 3 time-outs during the competition.

B. Time-outs are allowed. Time-outs may be called at any time during the game after a question is completed.

C. A Time out lasts sixty seconds (one minute).

2. Substitutions.

In all levels of competition substitutions of team members may be made only during time outs, and only by the coach. There can be only one alternate team member per team.

3. Tie Game.

In case of a tie, an overtime period of three 20 point questions will follow. If the tie still prevails there will be a second overtime of one 20 point question. If the tie still prevails there will be another overtime of one 20 point question until one team wins.

4. Bonus Question equals 25 points.

A Bonus question is earned when a team has correctly answered three 20 point questions (in a row) consecutively. Prior to giving an answer the team is allowed to confer. The team is given 60 seconds to confer, buzz in, and answer the question. One team member is required to buzz in after conferring with team members to answer for the team. This person is the only member to answer for the team.

PLEASE NOTE:
No conferring is allowed once the quizzer buzzes in.
