Well How did the event turn?
This way the first time we had tried the sort of event. But it turned out to be a fun time. The youth got to work as a team and got exerise and had fun. We had a good number of people which made this event even better. The more the merrier. NOTE: Below is how our decathlon went. In the first part I explained how the event worked and the second part I explained how the event went. I no longer have the scores and therefore don't know who won each event.

Introduction
Below is the list of all the events that we decided to have in our decathlon. You can have more or less than ten events but we decided to have ten so we could call it a decathlon. The whole event is based on a track decathlon. You have ten different events (both team and individual events) and for every event there are points to be won. After the ten events are completed the team that has the most points is declared the winners. You can give as many points as you think the events should have. I gave more points for the team events because they required more coordination of the team than an individual event required. But the point system is totally up to the people who are organizing the event.

Before the first event the teams must choose a team name. In our decathlon we had the following teams: Team Yerp and Team Hot Potatoes.

Event 1 - Over N' Under Relay
In this event we split the teams into 2 team each. The two sides of each team went to opposite ends of the room. Then the first half of the team was given a ball. They were all facing away from the other half of their team. The first person of this line was given this ball. They would pass it to the person behind them by passing it over their head. They would then run to the back of the line. The second person would then passed it to the third person by passing the ball between their legs, then they would run to the back of the line. Then the third passed it over their head, fourth between their legs, and so forth. When the first half of the team reached and tagged the other end of the room, they would pass the ball to the other half of their team. The other half of the team did the same on the way back. The first 'team' to get to one end of the room and back won.

This event was a little weird. I think there was a bit of confusion with some of the people involved, lol. But this event turned out alright. If memory serves me correctly Team Yerp won this event.

Event 2 - Is it Coke, or Isn't it Coke? That is the question.
This is a simple event. All it was was a taste test. We got four different types of Cola and asked each team to choose one person to perform this taste test. Each person was given a piece of paper and the names of the four Colas and all they had to do was taste each type (cup 1, 2, 3, and 4) and guess what type of cola was in each cup. They just wrote the type on the piece of paper. Whoever got the most right, their team won the points.

Team Yerp sent their best guy, Burt and Team Hot Potatoes sent a worthy competitor, Rob. Well, well, well, I was sure this was going to be a close, but I was amazed at how close it got. Let's see out of four Burt got ummm... zero right. This means Team Hot Potatoes was guaranteed victory. NOT so fast...let me see Rob got umm...zero! It was tie!!! Hence we didn't award either team with any points because no one got any of them right. lol This was an interesting result of this event.

Event 3 - Shoe Relay
In this event we got everyone to put their shoes into a pile at the other end of the room. The teams then lined up at the other end. Then we said, "GO!". The first members of each team then ran to the other end of the room, put on AND tied their shoes, and then ran back and tagged the next person and then sat down. The next person did the same thing and so forth until all the members of the team were sitting. First team sitting won. This event can be difficult to judge depending upon the type of shoes people have. Judge your scores accordingly.

P!!! U!!! Smelly event, lol. This was a fast paced event. This one was a little hard to judge the points since one team had one less person and one person didn't have shoes so it was hard to judge who really won this event. Team Yerp were the first team to have all their team sitting but they had two less people then Team Hot Potatoes. Us judges though didn't catch this point until after the event was over therefore we didn't award the full points (for winning the event) to Team Yerp.

Event 4 - Grape Up Chuck
This was a two part event. The first part was the actual event and the second part was a bonus event. Each team chose four people: two for the first part and two for the second part. In the first part two people from each team stood about a meter, one in front of the other and faced the same way. The first person was the thrower and the second person was the catcher. The objective of this event was the thrower would toss a grape over their head and the catcher behind them would have to catch the grape in their mouth. NO HANDS ALLOWED!!!!! This event went for about a minute. Which ever team caught the most grapes in a minute won. The second event was all bonus. There were three pieces of masking tape on the floor. They were placed about two, three, and four meters apart respectively. Each of the pieces of masking tape was given a certain number of points. Each team sent two NEW people for this bonus part. The thrower went to the same place as the first thrower did. The catcher then went to any of the pieces of masking tape. Each team was given a minute to gain as many points as possible. NOTE: The catcher could move to a different line during that minute. They didn't have to stay at the same line for the entire minute.

I have to admit that this was blowout for Team Yerp. Quinn and Kozak knew exactly how to do this and they managed to catch 13 grapes in the minute. Wow! Team Hot Potatoes struggled a bit and I believe Travis and Sheena was only able to get 3 or 4. Good, just not good enough. In the bonus event Team Yerp stretched their lead gaining 450 points to Team Hot Potatoes 150 pts.
Below are some pictures from this event.

Event 5 - Ah! Suck it Up
In this event each team chose one person to participate. We then gave each person a glass full of lemon juice, an empty cup, and a straw. Then had to take ONE sip of lemon juice. They had to suck as much lemon juice into their mouth (through the straw) as they could, then they had to spit out all that lemon juice (again through the straw) into the empty cup. The person who sucked up more lemon juice, their team won the points for the event.

Team Yerp sent Colleen for this event and Team Hot Potatoes sent Colin. Well, Colleen got confused and didn't understand what the event was asking. She instead thought that you just had to suck lemon juice into your mouth and spit it into the empty cup until it was full. NOPE!! Colin of Team Hot Potatoes did the event correctly but after seeing Colleen keep going he kept going. Since the event was done incorrectly we could declare a winner so we just said that both teams won and we gave them both the amount of points for winning the event.

SPECIAL GUEST PERFORMANCE
We were entertained with the awesome singing from the band EYES OF FIRE (click to check out their website). This was a treat. The girls sang beautfully. The songs they sang were: Great Is He, Give Us Clean Hands, Wonderful, It's So Hard, and When Your In Pain. It was so great that the girls were willing to perform in front of the youth and we hope they will do it again soon!!!
Here are some pictures of the girls singing.

Event 6 - Mystery Fast Food
In this event each team chose five members to compete. This was made up of five mini events (each food was a mini event). The five members drew numbers from a numbers from a hat. The hat contained two of each of the numbers from one to five. Then the event started by the two people who drew number one going onto the stage in front of the table. We then brought them a type of food. The object was which ever person could eat whatever was brought the fastest, won. This was done for five different foods and the points were given accordingly.

We got a kick out of this event. The 'foods' we chose for the people to eat were: Carbonated Water, Parsnip, Tofu, Sardines, and ?. Most of the races were very close, but in the end Team Yerp won 4 out of the 5 mini events and stretched their lead.

Event 7 - Freezin'
Two shirts (ones with buttons) are soaked with water. The water is rung out and then the shirts are placed in the freezer. About an hour or so before the event starts the shirts are taken out of the freezer and allowed to thaw a bit. Each team selects one person to participate in this event. They are each given one of the shirts. The objective, simple, unwrap the shirt, put it on and button it up.

This was an awesome event. Thanks to Vivienne for coming up with this event. Team Yerp selected ?? to participate and for Team Hot Potatoes it was Gillian. Well it turned out one shirt was a little bit more frozen than the other, lol. So, Team Hot Potatoes won this event quite handlely. Oh well tough luck for Team Yerp.

Event 8 - Bobbing For Worms
Each team picks one person to participate in this event. These people are then given a plate of pudding. In the pudding there are gummy worms. The chosen people have to get out as many worms as they can and put them onto a plate in 30 seconds. The catch, you can't use your hands!! NO HANDS ALLOWED in this event. You can only use your mouth. Whoever gets the most worms transfered in 30 seconds wins. In the case that both teams get all the worms before the alloted time limit the winners is the person who got them all out the fastest. Another person may have to hold the participant's hands behind the participate's back to ensure no use of the hands.

Mmmmmmm, chocolate pudding with gummy worms. Sounds delightful! For this event Team Yerp's Colleen was sent in to do battle against Team Hot Potatoes' CJ. This was a very close event in which Colleen just snuck out the victory by less than a second. Both her and CJ transferred all the worms in about 22 seconds. This was such an awesome event to watch.
The pictures below tell the story, lol. (NOTE: more pictures at bottom)

Event 9 - Walk The Line
This is a full team event. Two bats or something similar are placed at the other end of the room. Also two people who are not participating in the event so stand at the other end of the room. Each team is then given a ball (bouncy ball) and then they all stand in a line. When we say go the first people from each team dribble the ball to the other end and give it to the 'spotter' down at the other end. They then spin around the bat 10 or 15 times. The spotter counts out loud for the person to ensure no cheating. After the person has spun the required number of times the spotter will give the ball back to them. They have to DRIBBLE the ball all the way back and give it to the next person and sit down. The first team to do this with all there team wins.

This was the best event of the night. We didn't have any bats so we had to improvise and used 'mic' stands instead. These worked really good because they were heavy enough that you wouldn't be able to get them off the ground while your spinning. It was awesome to see how many people fell down during this event since you do get really dizzy. We were going to put a line that the people had to follow but that would have been hard. But I am happy to report that only one person hit a wall. You want a name. Hmmmmm...I don't know if I should say (*whispers* - Pssss...it was Chelsea), lol. But everyone staggered through this event but Team Yerp staggered through it slightly faster than Team Hot Potatoes.

Event 10 - Team Cheer
This is done in two parts with the first part being done before the first event and the second part being the last event. Before the first event the team split up and are given about five to ten minutes to come up with a team name and make a team cheer. In the last event each team then performs there team cheer for the judges. The judges then judge the perform in any way they like and award points accordingly.

Well both teams came up with two excellent team cheers. There was a little more action in the Team Yerp cheer but the Team Hot Potatoes cheer was more original. The three judges: Chris, Vivienne, and Mike O. deliberated on the performances, dissecting every minute moment the participants made and in the end came to the decision that we would award Team Hot Potatoes more points.

And the winner is....
Well, I bet now you want to know the which team pulled out the victory and by how much, eh? Well, I'm not going to tell you, lol. Fine I will. After careful tallying and retallying the scores did produced a victor. And the winning team was.................TEAM YERP. There final score was 4800 points while Team Hot Potatoes were only able to rack up 4600 points. Close, oh so close.
