This game requires a deck of cards. From the deck take 1 or 2 Kings (depends on the number of people, if there are
many people then 2 kings are necessary), 1 Ace, 1 Jack, and depending on the
number of players, some other cards from 2-10. The Kings represent the Mafia, the Ace represents the angel,
the Jack represents the detective, and all the other cards are called commoners.
To start the game deal one card to every player except one, the caller. The caller is the person who is dealing the cards. After everyone has been dealt a card and memorizes who the represent, the game starts. The caller will start by telling everyone to close their eyes and then he/she will say, "Mafia open your eyes." The people who were dealt the Kings (either one or two) open their eyes. The caller will ask, "Who do you want to kill?" The person will then point to someone. If there are two Mafia, they must agree on one individual. Once someone is chosen the caller will tell the Mafia to close their eyes. Then the Angel (the person with the Ace) is ask to open their eyes. The caller will ask, "Who do you want to save?" The Angel will point to someone and then the caller will ask him/her to close their eyes. The person holding the Jack card, ie, the detective is then asked to open his/her eyes. The caller will ask that person, "Who do you want to know about?" The detective will point to someone. If the person the detective pointed to is the Mafia the caller will nod, Yes. If the person pointed to is not one of the Mafia then the caller will nod, NO. The the caller will ask the detective to close his/her eyes. Once the caller has all the information straight he/she will say, "Everyone open your eyes." Once everyone has opened their eyes, the caller will then make up a story about how the person died or lived. The way a person lives is if the Angel pointed to them. If the person does die then after the story they show who they are and then they are out of that game. Then comes the BLAME GAME. Everyone who is remaining now has to vote on who they think killed the person. Accusations are made and then the people accused are given the chance to defend themselves on why they are not the Mafia. Once a majority decision is reached that person must show there card and they are removed from the game. If there is only one Mafia and the rest of the people vote for them, then the game is over. And the cards are returned and redealt. If there are two or more Mafias then the game resumes from the start. The object for the Mafia is to get all the commoners removed from the game. Once this happens the game is over. The object for the commoners is to remove the Mafia and save themselves. It is a good idea to change callers every few rounds so they get a chance to participate in the actual game. |
