Frank Bessem's Musiques d'Afrique: Maciré Sylla (Guinée) |

Maciré
Sylla was formerly member of Fatala, a group playing semi-traditional Guinean music based
in the Netherlands, and that had already recorded on the famous Realworld label in the early 1990s.
Since she left Fatala, she established a new band, Djembé Faré and
recorded the album Mariama in Switzerland. The album struck world music
aficionados because of its mix of traditional rhythms and melodies from Guinea
with the use of electric guitars played by European musicians. The new 2001 album, presented as a solo album rather than an album of her in cooperation with Djembé Faré, goes a step further in this innovative way.
