In past times Mali was the cradle of some of the greatest West-African kingdoms. Silent witnesses of this glorious past are cities such as Djenné, Mopti and Timbuktu, still famous for their beautiful Sudanese adobe architecture.
During this first part of the project ‘Voices from Mali’ the Zuiderpershuis presents extraordinary photographs of adobe mosques, concerts, films, a conference, workshops and meeting moments. A plead for a new architecture,
inspired on tradition. The second part on Soudanese-Sahelian architecture will take place in October 2005.
