Of the many musical acts performing at this year's PNE Fair, none has a story like the trio B4-4. Twim brothers Ryan and Dan Kowarsky and their best friend Ohad Einbinder spent seven years singing and dancing and dreaming of the day they would finally make it big.
One day, on the way to an audition, Ohad decided on a whim that the group should go to Sony Records Canada head office and go serenade the brass. Expecting to be turfed out, they wound up with a record contract instead.
Now, the album Before Four and the hit video for the song "Get Down" find the boys performing to packed crowds of appreciative little girls.
"It's insane, I really can't believe this is all happening," says Ryan. "We've been working so hard the past year and a half, that to have this all coming together is incredible. We're so grateful to everyone."
Over the course of our interview, it becomes really clear that these kids really are polite, nice guys. Of course, since the twins' father is the cantor of Toronto's Beth Tzedec synagogue - the largest conservative synagogue in North America - Ryan's well-mannered ways aren't unexpected. His being in a pop combo that sings some-what suggestive materieal is more surprising. "Actually, not at all. Everyone in the community, our parents, our whole family is really proud of us." |
