1. Administrative Items
A. Changed meeting day and timeThis month's meeting day and time were changed to accommodate those who wanted to participate in the downtown visioning public workshop which was to take place immediately following the CACT meeting.
B. Review and approval of outstanding minutesThis item was skipped.
A. Update on July 5 session with Street Works on Downtown VisioningRob mentioned that on July 5 he represented the CACT in presenting some preliminary ideas to the consultant conducting the visioning process. The focus was on the following elements: 1) Pedestrian. The walkable nature of the crossroads area should be built upon and augmented; 2) Traffic calming. The City should experiment with different ways to calm traffic; 3) Transit. There are several bus routes that go through this intersection as well as the Electrek Bus - this area could benefit from transit oriented development; 4) Parking. The City should experiment with on-street parking to help the businesses and to calm traffic.
B. Electrek BusHelen mentioned that the test was not going well and there seemed to be some technical problems that were difficult to overcome. The CACT expressed their interest in possibly pursuing some other projects to provide similar service in the City - such as the smaller buses that WMATA employs ion Georgetown and Dupont Circle. The feeling of the group was that although the benefits of using an electric vehicle were important, the bus service was important, as well. Rob drafted a letter which was reviewed by the members and submitted to the City Manager to this effect.
C. Development ProjectsA proposal has come in for the Adcom site. details will be provided at the next meeting.D. Progress of Pedestrian / Walkability Plan
Each of the CACT members mentioned that it would be helpful to establish a target date for completion of the Ward scans and for a brief write-up of each. It was recommended that at the September meeting drafts would be in from everyone so we could have a productive conversation about next steps, revisions, etc.
