2002 Fall Schedule and Results

The Lightning competes in the U17 1st Division PAGS

DateOpponentLocationResult
Sun. 9/8 - 1 PM Keystone Extreme Parkwood W 4 - 1
Game Summary - Lightning Goals - C. Beatty, K. Reagan, D. Little, D. Little. Nice save by K. Hartman on free kick (1st half). Good team effort, tight defense, nice movement of the ball. Keystone scored on PK in final seconds of the game.
Sun. 9/15 - 12:00 Noon Lionville Breeze USTC Field C W 6 - 2
Game Summary - Lightning Goals - J. Hamill (2), M. Neary, B. Morrin, K. Gavaghan, C. Beatty. Another great effort by the entire team. Good use of space and the field, good ball control, movement and communication. Lionville goals came off of two lapses on defense. We need to work on keeping our focus when leading in games.
Sun. 9/22 - Noon FC Brandywine Raptors Embreeville W 2 - 1
Game Summary - Lightning Goals - B. Morrin (2), including a nice header. Good team effort once again. The team responded well to the smaller field. Brandywine goal came off of PK late in the game.
Sun. 9/29 - 1 PM Kirkwood Charge Parkwood W 5 - 0
Game Summary - Lightning Goals - J.Swearingen, C. Beatty (2), C. Regan, K. Gavaghan. Great overall team effort. Swear got us on the board first after a nice feed from Beatty. Great attacking and support from both the midfield and the defense. Romey was robbed on a beautiful strike from about 25 yards out, which richoted down off the crossbar but somehow miraculously bounced out. Nice work from both Little and Gavaghan in center mid.
Sun. 10/6 - 1 PM MOT (DE) Monarchs Parkwood W 5 - 1
Game Summary - Lightning Goals - K. Gavaghan (3), C. Beatty, B. Morrin. Once again another fine effort by the entire team. We were led offensively by Katie Gav, who hustled throughout the game and achieved a hat trick when she ripped a free kick off the far post beating the MOT goalie, who played superbly for the Monarchs. Bridget Morrin also had a nice hustling goal, contesting the goalie for a 50/50 ball and winning it with her head and tucking the ball away in the net. Great passing and movement of the ball. The only Monarch goal came when we allowed a 6-yarder to go uncontested and our defense was caught being a little over aggressive. Overall fine effort on defense did not allow the Monarchs to penetrate our defensive half more than a handful of times.
Sun. 10/27 - 1 PM Parkland United Parkwood W 6 - 2
Game Summary Lightning Goals - B. Morrin (2), K. Gavaghan (2), D. Little A banged up and depleted Lightning squad took the pitch on Sunday afternoon against Parkland. Missing the services of Olney, Beatty, Lane, Neary and Reagan, the Lightning nonetheless took little time to strike first and by the 5 minute mark found themselves up 2 - 0. Playing at equal strength against an equally depleted Parkland team, the Lightning increased their margin to 4 - 0 by halftime. With a comfortable lead, a recuperating Kate Hartman was given the 2nd half off being replaced by Mares "The Wall" Tobin in the net. Despite her awesome leaping ability, Mares was unable to keep Parkland off the board and we traded goals in the 2nd half to finish the contest at 6 - 2.
Sun. 11/24- 3 PM Tredyffrin Storm Cedar Hollow W 6 - 0
Game Summary Lightning Goals: Neary, Gavaghan, Tobin, Hamil, Beatty (2) The Lightning took the pitch without Olney and Lane who were joined on the disabled list by Bridget Morrin. Morrin suffered a shoulder injury while helping lead St. Hubert's to the PCL crown. The Lightning welcomed back Megan Neary, who recently helped Hubert's X-Country team also capture the PCL crown.
Playing against a shorthanded Storm team, the Lightning struck first with a nice bit of passing which started with a pass from Regan to Beatty who led Neary nicely. Megan deaked the Storm keeper and tucked home the first score. The second goal came on a free kick by Katie Gav from about 20 yards out after she was fouled on a great individual effort and we closed out the 1st half 2-0. In the 2nd half Christi Beatty drilled a nice left footed shot into the upper left corner of the Storm goal. Mares Tobin put the finishing boot on a nice play which started with Regan leading Neary on a fine pass into the corner and Neary serving a fine centering pass into Tobin for an easy tally. In spite of a sore ankle, Jen Hamill was able to send a nice 25 yarder over the outstretched hands of the Storm keeper. Today's 6-0 win culminated an undefeated season for the Lightning, a season which saw them capture the PAGS 1st Divsion while outscoring their opponents 34 - 7. Well done ladies!
