Sun. 9/7 - 12 PM Spirit Dominators USTC Field A W 4 - 1
Game Summary - Great team effort on a hot day with limited personnel. Christina Romano handled herself very well, taking over in the net for an injured Kate Hartman. Jen Hamill, Danielle Little and Katie Gav all turned in nice performances, Gav had a nice headball goal in a crowd, off a corner kick served up by Jen Burke. Shannon Tolan led the defense playing just about the whole game until getting dinged in the last few minutes. Strong performances on D from Jen Zeminski , Jen Burke and Jenna Moore. Mares Tobin once again showed her versatility, playing outside Mid and filling in at Fullback as well. Bridget Morrin made her return to the team with a rather unique pair of shin guards and a goal that helped put the finishing touches on the Dominators.
Sun. 9/14 - 1 PM Bethlehem Shadow Parkwood W 2 - 0
Game Summary - Goal Scorers - Danielle Little, Jen Hamill. Well this game was a microscosm of both good and bad soccer. Not sure if our flat start was associated with the half hour delay, but we didn't take the pitch with any sign of energy or urgency when opportunities arose. Communication and anticipation were almost non-existent. While we did put pressure on our opponents from Bethlehem, our lone goal came from the foot of Danielle Little on a high ball out of the keeper's reach. The defense played solid again. In the 2nd half the communication improved, we put together some better passing combinations, but once again after Jen Hamill scored on an nice blast from about 25 yds out - we kind of sunk back into some bad habits. Winning ugly seems to sum up this match. Areas to improve: better first touches, movement without the ball, playing the ball into space and communication.

Exeter Jr. High
W 4 - 2
Game Summary After a long ride out to Reading, most of the team arrived on time (1/2 hr before game) but unfortunately we were not ready to play. By the time every one was dressed - there was little time to warmup. By the time everyone was ready to play we found ourselves down 2-0. After the 2nd goal - the team seemed to wake up. Good passing and movement was displayed in the 2nd part of the 1st half, but we spent too much time looking for the perfect shot. Johanna Larkin got us on the board with a long shot from outside the box, which skidded by the keeper on the wet pitch. Bridget Morrin notched the equalizer and we left the field at half all knotted at 2-2. The 2nd half saw a different FC Phila. team take the field and we brought the game to Exeter. Hitting the post and crossbar on several occasions for a time it looked as if we couldn't buy a goal. Collette Walsh gave the Exeter defense fits, timing runs on a number of through balls, with one such run resulting in a foul in the box. Collette converted the PK to give us a one goal advantage. Late in the half Jen Burke supplied an insurance goal on a nice shot from about 30 out on a ball from the middle after a corner kick. Fine effort from everyone on the team once we got down to the business at hand. Kudos to the defense for tightening up and congrats for the team as a whole - digging in and fighting your way back when you could have just given up after such a rocky start. Although she didn't get a goal today - great effort from Katie Gav and 4 stars for her slide through one of the larger puddles on the field.

Sun. 10/26 - 1 PM 1.SC Phila. Parkwood W 2 - 0
Game Summary Minus quite a few players we started out this match short handed. Kudos to Romie for filling in at center mid for us and a nod of the cap to Jen Swearengen for suiting up even though she was not 100% recovered yet. About 15 minutes into the match we added a player and were able to play even up with the 1st half ending scoreless. Thanks to our conditioning we were able to play the entire match with limited substitution. We were able to notch a couple of goals with Jen Hamill scoring the first on a PK after Bridget Morrin was brought down in the box. Our 3rd goal (a nice shot from outside with the keeper out) was disallowed on a dubious offside call. We finished the contest on top 2-0. Congrats to everyone for keeping their cool and focus, even after play got a little chippy. One area still in need of work is communication both on the field and relative to attendance at games.
Sat. 11/15 2 PM PSC Coppa Thunder Phila. Soccer L 1 - 3
Game Summary Probably the sloppiest effort of the Fall. After giving up 2 week goals in the 1st half - we got the game back to just a one goal deficit with a nice individual effort by Kait Gavaghan. The only real scoring chance in 2nd half came on a nice strike off a free kick, it was destined for the upper 90 when Daniell Hurd (former Lightning player) leaped and made a one handed save to keep us from scoring the equalizer. Late in the game we allowed a 3rd goal to come from a shot outside the box on a defensive breakdown.
Sun. 11/23 - 10 AM Spirit Breeze USTC Field A W 5 - 0
Game Summary Christi Beatty received star of the game honors as she notched 2 scores and assisted on a third. Joining her with 2 tallies was Jen Swearingen who bounced back after being run over early in the 2nd half and tallied two nice goals, the final one coming almost at the whistle. The scoring was finished off by Johanna Larkin who scored the 3rd goal of the contest against a Breeze team that never really threatened. Playing with only 2 subs, many players were given the opportunity to move around into positions they normally don't play.
