Every year the physics students in Derf's (Mr. Carrington's) physics classes compete in the annual Popsicle-Stick Bridge contest. (For the first time the students of Don Krotser's physics class also competed.)
The first stage of the contest is school-wide with students from four classes competing to build the "best" bridge. This year the winning bridge took over 1000 pounds and was built by Robert Serianu and Dennis Frey. The runner-up , also taking a load of near 1000 pounds, was built by Srbui Ovsepyan and Alex Revekko. Both teams were selected to compete at the next level at CSULB (California State University at Long Beach.)
The contest is sponsored by the Young Member's Forum of the Southern California Society of Civil Engineers. This contest has been held for the last seven years and we at Grant High School have lucky to get a first place all seven years.
