History

The Fairfax Rockies were founded in 1991 by a group of Northern Virginia baseball players led by Ricky Ruiz. Ricky recruited talent for the team, but was unsuccessful in his bid to bring the team into the upper echelon of the DC Metro MABL. In the winter of 1995 several Fairfax players left the team and formed a new one, the Jim McKay Chevrolet/Patriot Cafe Mets. The Mets would soon ascended to the elite of the DC Metro MABL. The Mets won the MABL 19+ Championship for four straight years after seceding from Ruiz.

Ruiz valiantly tried to rebuild the squad, and recruited a few core members to replace the defectors along with some veteran talent. Of these core members, two remain Rockies today: They are Third Baseman Johnny Simancas and Pitcher/First Baseman Nick Travaglino. Following another sub-.500 seasons, Catcher Justin Deuterman left the Rockies in order to form a new team, the Fairfax Bulls. The Bulls then went on to win the division that next year. In the winter of 1997 former third base coach Louis Travaglino took over the reigns of the Rockies, and promptly led the squad to its first ever winning campaign. Today, the Rockies continue to fight for the division banner and the league championship. They do this by signing former minor league ballplayers and players from Division I and area community colleges.
