Queens Of Nozie – Indie Boys (Don’t Deserve It)
Dear God, nobody deserves this let alone the indie boys. Perhaps trying to prove that their talents have no start, the London DJ duo launch an assault on the pop charts with a song that’s so bad it’s not even good in an ironic way. ‘Indie boys don’t deserve it, copping a feeeeeel like you’ve got a record deeeeeeeeel’ they screech in the opening lines and it just gets better and better, ‘I wanna have your head between my thighs but I ain’t interested in girlfriends and lies’. Classy it ain’t and if this is the result of being London scene Queens then, as they profess, ‘fucking hell, somebody shoot me’.

Oasis – Lyla
Still heralded as the kings of Britpop, but can you be king of something that no longer exists? Whilst the other giants of the scene have either split or diversified, Oasis continue to plod on, offering up a few ‘controversial’ quotes in an attempt to still sound relevant. Perfectly acceptable if you still like Ocean Colour Scene but up against the new breed of British bands, Lyla sounds tired, dated and unremarkable. Time to believe the truth perhaps?

Coldplay – Speed Of Sound
A band with all the qualities of wallpaper – constantly in the background but not something you take great interest in until you hit middle age. Perfectly pleasant (which may be damming with faint praise) but nothing, not even Chris Martin becoming the transsexual dictator of a third world country, will make me find them interesting.

Kaiser Chiefs – Everyday I Love You Less and Less
Somewhere on this website is an interview with the Kaiser’s previous incarnation...the one we’re not meant to admit to liking. Beginning with P. Whom Ruth saw play on Scarborough beach with the Libertines before anyone really knew who they were either. But enough trumpet blowing and enough pointing out that we saw the potential of this band when they weren’t even that great. But yeah. Anyway...Everyday I Love You Less and Less is like being struck, smack bang, by a pop bus of brilliance. Highlighting all the reasons why they’re the best thing around at the moment, the standout track from Employment is a darkly humorous tale of past love and lust which will have you hooked within the first 30 seconds and dancing round the room before the first 60.

The Bravery – Fearless
Speedboats? Keyboards? Stupid hair? Check, check, check! Utter shite? Yes! The Bravery are one of those bands who make the very common mistake of believing that videos shot in black and white equal electro. They don’t. Nor do they make you look moody and interesting. And neither will they rescue a song that blatantly rips off Duran Duran whilst shoehorning in some of the most cringe worthy lyrics of recent times.

Nine Black Alps – Not Everyone
No gimmicks and a bass player with the best beard in rock. The Alps third single is everything The Bravery’s is not. However, rumours that a video shoot involving pedal boats and the Manchester ship canal remain unconfirmed...

Ambulance LTD – Primitive (The Way I Treat You)
Cited as The Bravery and Brandon Flowers favourite new band by the press release, the New Yorkers have already scaled the dizzy heights of teen cool – an appearance on season 3’s O.C. soundtrack. Sounding like a chilled out Beck, Primitive is seductive, hypnotic and ever so slightly dirty. Perfect for hazy summer evenings whether in Orange County or south Manchester...
