"I'm nervous. Really nervous, that I'll have to do something I don't want to, and will end up failing at the beginning." She zipped up her suitcase, and turned off the lights: Tomorrow, the game began. * Michael waited in the terminal of his local airport, waiting for his plane. "I'm ready for this adventure! Not sure where this will take me, but the game is gonna be fun!" They called his name, as he stepped on his plane. He glanced at his ticket: Non-Stop to Boston! * Bettina sat on her flight, looking out the window. "Can I win? Of course! I've got a 1/6 chance, and nothing but myself to stop me." The plane flew by, and pulled into Boston's airport. * Josh sat at a cafe in the airport, waiting by the baggage claim, drinking some coffee. "I've always wanted to do something crazy like this, and I think I can win." Bags began to be delivered from the flight, as Josh finished his drink, he went over to them. * Shannan stood leaning on one leg, looking for the ride she expected to find. "I have a couple of fears, but I'm going to push them aside and do ANYTHING to win this game!" As a limo pulled up. Surprised she hoped in, the car taking her off to an unknown destination. * Jim was the last one to get out of his car at the waterfront of the harbor. "Let the games begin! I can't wait to meet everyone, and hopefully I'll get the title!" He joined all other 5 contestants. They stood around for a while. Then, a man stepped forward, slightly short, thing, and a big grin on his face. "Hello, and welcome to Fantasy Fear Factor. I am your host, Cat Spasms. I'm sure you already know the rules to the game, 3 challenges each episode, which you earn points from. These challenges will face your fears. At the end of the week, whoever has the lowest number of points is eliminated." "Now, I'm sure you are eager to see what your first task is." "You bet." Shelby Marie replied. "Well, here it is." Cat pointed to 6 cranes off in the distance, each carrying a cage. All 6 stared in awe. "YOU WILL EACH BE LOCKED IN ONE OF THOSE CAGES. YOU HAVE 100 MINUTES TO GET OUT. EACH CAGE HAS A PASSWORDED KEY, ALL WITH THE SAME PASSWORD. YOU WILL HAVE AN UNLIMITED NUMBER OF GUESSES AT WHAT IT IS. ONCE YOU HAVE THAT, THE CAGE WILL OPEN, YOU'LL FALL OUT, AND YOU WILL RECIEVE THE NUMBER OF MINUTES LEFT OVER AS YOUR POINTS. HOWEVER, THE CAGES WILL SLOWLY BE LOWERED INTO THE WATER, STARTING FROM UP THERE, AT 8.5 METERS, ABOUT 2 1/2 STORIES HIGH. THE CAGES WILL BE LOWERED, AT A RATE OF 10 CENTIMETERS A MINUTE. THE CATCHES: ONE: YOU WILL BE UNDERWATER ONCE THERE IS 5 MINUTES LEFT, AND 2: YOU CAN REQUEST CLUES. HOWEVER, EACH CLUE TAKES AWAY 10% MORE OF YOUR SCORE. YOU ARE PROVIDED ONE HINT: CAPITAL." "So, what are your reactions?" "Panic," Jim laughed, "I'm dead afraid of heights!" "Why am I doing this again?" Bettina asked. "Too late now," Cat grinned evily, "The cages are waiting! * All 6 were locked into their cages. "Everyone has gotten our complicated and confusing rules, right?" Everyone nodded nervously. "Alright, raise them up!" The cages were raised to 8.5 meters. "GO!" * "The first thing I did was request a clue." Michael said later. * "The Globe" displayed on his screen. "The Globe...The Boston Globe?" he said to himself. B-O-S-T-O-N he entered in. There was a pause, then his cage opened, and he fell. "AHCK!" he yelled, as he crashed into the water. "Wow, you got it fast!" Cat commented. Michael swam back to the shore. "Great job Michael, you have recieved 100 points, plus a 10% deduction, leaving you with 90 points." * "After taking 2 clues," Bettina said later, "I got it." * Bettina's cage opened, and she plummeted into the water below. "Congrats Bettina! You have earned 64 points, after a 20% deduction from your 80 point score." * "Clue," Shannan said. "Founded in 1630." * "It then hit me, after 5 clues, that it was Boston, where we were!" Shannan said later. * With one hour remaining, Shannan's cage opened. "Congrats Shannan. You have earned 60 points, and with 5 clues, thats a 50% deduction, leaving you with 30 points." * "I didn't want to take clues," Jim said later, "Since then I'd just loose more points. By the time I started asking for them, it was really too late." * "I have no clue what I'm doing." Shelby Marie said, pushing some buttons, "This game is too confusing!" * "Why oh why oh why did I get myself involved with this?" Shelby Marie said to herself, "I should have thought more about this game before doing it." * "My password wasn't working, so I just gave up," Josh said later, "Its not like there weren't anymore challenges." * The cages were lowered into the water. "Come on...lets try...Boston?" Shelby Marie guessed. The bottom of the cage opened. "30 SECONDS TO GO!" Cat yelled from above. * "Darn, I wish I had swam out of that cage. I'm not good at swimming underwater!" * "Time is up!" Cat yelled. Divers came down, and got the 3 remaining contestants out of the water, and wrapped into towels. "Okay, good job everyone, you all did try hard. Here is a look at the scoreboard: 1st: Michael--90 points 2nd: Bettina--64 points 3rd: Shannan--30 points 4th: Josh--0 points(Auto Advantage) 5th: Jim, Shelby Marie--0 points * "Now, Josh, I understand you had some problems with your cage. We are checking it out right now. However, if there ends up a tie, because of this you will have an automatic advantage over whoever you tie with, in this case Jim and Shelby Marie. Now you 3, don't hang your heads. Trust me, you can still earn plenty of points, TOMORROW! Its now 7:00pm, and Dinner is waiting for you. Goodnight!" *** At the dinner table, the topic of Music came up in the conversation: Michael: My favorite song is Blank Theory, "Broken Glass". A lot of you have probably never heard it...Anyone? Cat Spasms: Nope, I believe I've missed that. Shelby Marie: My fave song right now is "getting to heaving for me" by 3lw! Go 3lw!!! Cat Spasms: Well mine changes constantly, Michael: Same here... Cat Spasms: Right now, I guess my favorite is "I'm only Happy When It Rains" by Garbage. Its an alternative classic! Michael: Garbage kicks butt. :) The conversation continued to talk about the 9/11 tradgidies, embarrassing moments, and more. After dinner, everyone went to sleep. A new day, with a new challenge, was tomorrow. * *** * The next day, the 6 contestants walked into The Crossroads Irish Pub (http://www.crossroadsirishpub.com/) located on Beacon Street, for their next challenge. "Hows everyone doing?" A mixture of answers came back. "Well, today we have a fun little challenge for you! As you may or may not know, Boston has a fishing industry in the harbor, mainly for Cod. So we figured to follow the local dish, but spice it up a bit." Taking the shot-tap, Cat sprayed the wall of the pub with an odd substance. * "It looked gross," Bettina said later, "I didn't know what to say." * "This is Liquified Squid Guts," Cat said, "I WILL GIVE EACH OF YOU A SHOT OF THE DELIGHTFUL DRINK! IF YOU DRINK IT, YOU GET 5 POINTS. IF YOU THROW UP, YOU DO NOT GET ANY POINTS. WE KEEP GOING UNTIL YOU THROW UP." "So, are you all ready for your first round of drinks?" The contestants looked at each other, still completly astounded by the challenge. Cat gave each contestant a shot. "There is more in my glass than his," Jim joked, pointing at Michael. Some of the crew let out chuckles at that. "Alright, drink it down! Cheers!" Cat said, toasting with his glass of plain old water. All the contestants drank their drink down. Immediatly, Josh, Shelby Marie, and Jim spat theirs out. * "I was expecting it to be bad, but not THAT bad," Josh said later. * "That stuff tasted so bad, you wouldn't believe it." Shannan said. * "Okay, Shelby Marie, Josh, and Jim, you have all earned no points. Lets continue to the second round with Bettina, Shannan, and Michael." Shots were handed out quickly. "Gulp it down!" Cat said, while the same 3 were on their 4th shot. Shannan started having some trouble getting it down. * "At this point, I thought, 'You know Shannan, you don't have to do this to yourself. You already have 40 points!' So I spat it out." * Shannan spat it out in the nearby bucket. "Alright, Shannan, you have earned 15 points from this challenge, giving you a total of 45 points after 2 challenges." "That should be enough," Shannan smiled. * "Onto the 9th shot!" Cat said, handing it out to Bettina. "Just try and beat me," Bettina laughed. Michael struggled to get it down. "You already have a lead," Shannan reminded Michael. Michael then smiled, and spat out the liquified squid guts onto Cat Spasms. Everyone laughed, as Cat cleaned himself up with a towel. "Hey, let me just say 'Karma'" Cat stated, "Anyways, Bettina, you can now keep on drinking, or stop." "Well, I wanna go for first place this episode, so I'll keep going!" "Okay, right now, Michael has 130 points, and Bettina has 109 so far. That means you need to drink the next 5 shots. And here is shot number 10!" Bettina took it down, slowly and easily. She sighed, and showed her tongue. It was down. Everyone applauded her effort. "Number 11" Bettina squirmed as she drank. * "The taste was starting to sink in a lot. I wasn't enjoying it too much." * "Number 12" "I'm starting to feel sick," she said, then swallowed it. "Its coming...coming..."Jim said, watching. Bettina spat towards Cat Spasms, this time Cat ducking just in time. "You guys, YOU are supposed to be facing your fear of gross food, not me facing my fear of vomit!" With that everyone cracked up. "Okay, here is the new scoreboard: 1. Michael--130 2. Bettina--119 3. Shannan--45 4. Josh--0(auto advantage) 5. TIE: Jim & Shelby Marie--0 Now, remember, tomorrow is a new day! You can easily still get eliminated." The 6 contestants headed back to their hotel. * The last day arrives, and the 6 contestants walk out onto the Harbor Bridge...blindfolded. "Well well well..." Cat says to the contestants, "Today we have a great task for you. Keep your blindfolds on, and listen to my directions: ON THE BEAMS OF THIS BRIDGE ARE 8 FLAG STATIONS, AND A FINISH LINE. YOU WILL HAVE TO MOVE ALONG THE HIGH HEIGHTS OF THIS BRIDGE, AND COLLECT THESE FLAGS FROM THE FLAG STATIONS. EACH FLAG IS WORTH 10 POINTS. ONCE YOU HAVE ALL THE FLAGS, YOU MAY GO TO THE FINISH LINE, ON THE OTHER END OF THE BRIDGE. HOWEVER, ONE CATCH: THERE IS ONE FLAG STATIONDIFFERENT FROM THE REST. THE DIFFERENT FLAG, IF YOU COLLECT IT, WILL CAUSE YOU TO LOOSE ALL YOUR POINTS THAT YOU HAVE ALREADY COLLECTED. YOU HAVE A TOTAL OF HALF AN HOUR. EVERY 5 MINUTES, SOMEBODY ELSE WILL BE LET ONTO THE BRIDGE." "Now, who shall like to go first?" Shelby Marie slowly raised her hand. * "I don't like heights, and want to get it over with!" Shelby Marie said later. * "Okay, you're in your safety harness, are you ready to go?" Shelby Marie nodded. "Take off your blindfold, and GO!" Shelby Marie tore off her blindfold, and immediatly began to climb. "I don't like this..." she said. * "I couldn't seem to find any flags," Shelby Marie said, "I was looking for something big." * "Alright, Josh, your 30 minutes starts NOW! GO!" Josh ran up the beams of the bridge. "Come on, flags..." * "I kept looking and looking, but somehow I managed to miss them all." Jim said later. * "Shannan, go!" Shannan slowly made her way up. "This is tiring..." she said to herself. She then spotted a little flag. "OH! Here we go!" * "I then assumed they were all along the side beams, which I later learned was wrong." * "Jim, go!" Jim raced to the top, and looked out. * "The view was very captivating, and I was nervous I would fall, I went slowly." * "This is getting scary," Shelby Marie said, climbing around. * Josh ended up on the other side of the bridge. "This is bizarre, where are all the flags?" * "Michael, Go!" Michael looked at the bridge first, then began to climb. * "I couldn't find anything, so I decided to wait on a side beam, and have Bettina do the work for me!" Michael said later. * "Bettina, Go!" Bettina ripped of her blindfold, and climbed up a little ways, then stopped. * "I wasn't sure what I was looking for, so I looked around first." * Bettina then noticed the smaller flag Shannan had grabbed earlier. "Here we are!" she said. Michael, slowly following her, took it too. * "Alright Shelby Marie, your time is up! Please come down." Empty handed, Shelby Marie returned. "Darn, I can only hope Jim doesn't get any." * Jim made his way around, looking for the flags. * Bettina and Michael took their third flags each. * "I realized what Michael was doing, so I passed some flags on purpose." * "Josh, your time is up, please come down." Josh stepped off the bridge. "Did you find any flags?" he asked Shelby Marie. "No." * "Shannan, your time is up." Shannan came down with 1 flag. * Bettina and Michael had taken 6 of the 7 point earning flags. "Gee, I can't find the last one," Bettina said, "Might as well give up." * Jim noticed a tin can holding flags. "Alright..." he started to head for it. "JIM! Your time is up," Cat Spasms yelled, "Please come down with any flags you have as of now." * "I was annoyed...until I learned that was the point loosing flag!" Jim said later, "It was in a tin can instead of an envelope." * Bettina and Michael still sat on the same side beam. "Michael, your time is up!" "Dang, thats cheap..." Michael sighed. Immediatly, Bettina crossed the side beam over to the other side of the bridge. There, she took the last flag, which she'd been eying throughout the time she had been with Michael. She then slowly made her way to the finish line. "I'M DONE!" She yelled, as she crossed it. "Congrats Bettina! You have earned all 100 points from this task! Here is the new and FINAL score board: 1. Bettina, 219 2. Michael, 190 3. Shannan, 55 4. Josh 0 (Auto Advantage) 5. TIE: Shelby Marie and Jim 0 We have a tie. So now, we move onto a tie breaker round. Are you two ready for your challenge?" Both Jim and Shelby Marie nodded. "Alright, here it is! YOU WILL HAVE TO DO A BRIDGE SWING, UNDERNEATH THE HARBOR BRIDGE. THIS IS A VERY DEADLY MANUEVER. YOU WILL EACH TAKE TURNS SWINGING. THE PERSON WHO GRABES THE FLAG FROM UNDERNEAT THE BRIDGE FIRST, STAYS. THE OTHER, GOES." So, who wants to go first? Jim volunteered. "Okay Jim, you'll go. If you get it, and Shelby Marie doesn't, they we go around again. If only you get it, Shelby Marie goes. If Shelby Marie gets it, you go. If neither of you get the flag, we go around again. So, ready?" Jim nodded, He stepped up onto the rail. "GO!" Jim went under the bridge. * "That was the scariest thing ever." Jim said later. * Jim came back up to the bridge. "Alright Jim, did you get it?" Jim shook his head. "Very well. Shelby Marie, if you get the flag, you will move on, and Jim will be eliminated." * "Okay Shelby Marie, for a ticket to the next round, are you ready?" Shelby Marie nodded, trying to keep her balance. "JUMP!" Shelby Marie launched herself forward, and swung under the bridge to where nobody could see her. * *** * Shelby Marie was brought back by boat to the bridge. She approached Cat Spasms, carrying a large flag that read "Fantasy Fear Factor!" "I GOT IT!" she smiled. Jim hung his head. "I am sorry to say this Jim, but you have been eliminated from Fantasy Fear Factor. But don't worry, because there will be 2 vote ons. So you can still be seen in the finals. It was nice meeting you." "You too." Jim replied, managing to smile. "And good luck." Cat Spasms said. Jim walked off, parting the game. "And now, you 5 get to move on to our next destination. Where? You will have to wait and see! Next week, its a new game! The points boards are cleared, and ANYONE can be eliminated" Cat grinned. Josh, Shelby Marie, Shannan, Bettina, and Michael, all left The Harbor Bridge, as the sunset, closing the day, and the first episode of Fantasy Fear Factor. |
