What they REALLY did!
Okay, yeah, Jim got eliminated, blah blah blah, but you wanna know more, RIGHT? Exactly what they did? I mean, you didn't REALLY force them to eat such nasties as 'liquified cod', did you? Of course not. I may be somewhat evil, but not THAT evil. Here is what exactly happened!
Task 1: Crashing from the Cage
Here, the contestants might not have fallen from a cage, but in all honesty, they DID have to crack a password, and did have request clues. Here is how it worked.
The contestant's lounge forum on the EZ boards was password protected. So we decided to take this forum and turn it into the VERY first challenge. They had to figure out the password to the forum, and enter it. Then, simply reply to a certain topic in the contestant's lounge. The order they replied determined how many points they got:
1st: 100 points
2nd: 80 points
3rd: 60 points
4th: 40 points
5th: 20 points
6th: 1 point, but no deductions(see later)
Now, just like in the fantasy episode, they were given one clue: capitals. They could request clues, but for each one, they were deducted an additional 10%, then 20%, and so forth.
Michael, after one clue (The Globe, name of Boston's Newspaper), figured out it was 'Boston', and was the first to reply. Therefore, he earned 90 points. Bettina took 2 clues, and therefore recieved 64 points.
Now, at this time, I realized people didn't want clues because of the deduction. HOWEVER, the challenge really relied on the clues. So with 6 hours left, I started emailing the remaining contestants clues.
Shannan managed to figure out it was Boston next. She said later she didn't know too much about the city, but once she got the 5th clue(Founded in 1630), she managed to figure it out, giving her 30 points.
Josh however, had been active AT FIRST. His computer gave troubles on the EZboard. Since the challenge was set up here, there wasn't anything I could do. HOWEVER, I decided that if there was a tie, he would get an advantage over the other contestants because of this. After this challenge, I moved the message boards to a closed location (and don't try bribing me!) However, he still got 0 points.
Jim and Shelby Marie, you will see, didn't participate throughout this round of the game. This is because Jim had a very busy schedule. He was also having some personal life issues, and wasn't ever able to make the challenges. Since I didn't know he wasn't able to, I didn't have a chance to reschedule it. And since he still was ABLE to participate, I didn't feel it was fair to give him the same deal as Josh. However, if he gets voted back on, I'm sure we could work things out! Shelby Marie, on the other hand, was having PC troubles, and therefore couldn't get on her computer, let alone the site. I didn't learn this til later though, when the tie breaker had finished and she had already moved on to the next round. Regardless of this, they both earned 0 points.
Task 2: Liquified Cod Guts
With two tough challenges to start of the beginning of Fantasy Fear Factor, I decided to give them a REALLY simple challenge to balance things out. With the liquified squid guts, the number of posts on the NEW forum (for contestants only) determined the number of shots you drank. Josh, Jim, and Shelby Marie never did post for the reason's above, so they earned 0. Bettina, however, posted 11 times, giving her 55 points! A nice break it was for them, and it boosted some's scores!
Task 3: Harbor Bridge Walk
This challenge is, as I told the contestants, probably the hardest ALL season. And now thinking about it, besides 3 (One will come up in Episode 4, One in Episode 3, and of course the final challenge) it is!
First, they were given a question. The answer to this question would determine what page they must go to on the fearfactor website. For example, if it was, "What is one plus one", you would enter the URL "http://www.oocities.org/fearfactur/two.html".
Then, on that webpage, you will find the password to a certain locked forum (There were 8 of them, numbered one through 8) in the form of a question (sometimes). The answer would be the password.
In the forum, they'd then find a thread called 'Flag' and 'Next'. Flag, they would reply to to confirm they had arrived. By doing so, they earned 10 points. 'Next' told them the next page they had to visit.
This pattern went on, with tricks. Forum '6', as you found out if you read all the threads, was a trick forum. If you posted in it, you would loose all the points you had gained at that point.
The finish line was hidden in Forum '4', in a thread called 'Falg', making it look like a flag thread that had a typol. But that was just the disguise. By replying to it, you earned 30 points.
Bettina was the only one who got all the flags then crossed the finish. Shannan informed me she was pretty busy, and would just pray to make it. However, before that, she got to the first flag! Michael did not find the finish or one of the flags. Therefore, Bettina won 100 points, Michael won 60 points, and Shannan won 10 points.
Tie Breaker: Bridge Swing
Yes, the tie breaker was put into us, since Shelby Marie and Jim were both tied at 0 due to circumstances. With this, I went and took a look at the weekly poll for the tie breaker. (Due note, the tie breaker is usually a future/previous challenge done early/again!) Josh had 3 votes, Shelby Marie had 6, while Jim had 0. Therefore, even without Josh's automatic, Jim was eliminated from the game.
Final Thoughts/Comments
It was too bad to see Jim go. He was one of the more experienced cast members, and I thought he would do good. However, real life should ALWAYS come before internet life. So I am glad Jim did make the decision that he wouldn't play. However, he may get voted back on, in which case he would still have a chance at winning!
Both Josh and Shelby Marie seem to be doing fine in the game, so don't expect them to go necessarily! They could win, but so could all other 4 players! The next episode will be a good one, a little bit more slow paced and less demanding, but it will be fun!
