Children wearing school uniform look a lot better for it. It is the concern of the school that children are encouraged to take pride in their appearance. Parents who choose Featherstone Primary School will be expected to fully cooperate with the school and maintain a high standard of dress. Featherstone Primary School colours are Red and Grey.
P.E. KitFor Physical Education and games all children are required to have a pair of pumps/trainers. They should also have a change of clothing as following:-
ToysToys should not be brought to school except when requested by a teacher for a special purpose. disputes, breakage and loss of toys often occurs and we cannot take valuable teaching time to investigate these incidents. SweetsNO sweets are allowed in school, especially chewing gum/bubble gum, except when a child may wish to bring birthday or leaving sweets for his/her class. there is a tuck shop which sells crisps, chocolate, biscuits and soft drinks. Children must NOT bring pop or drinks in bottles cans to school. School Behaviour PolicyParents who chose Featherstone Primary School are expected to comply and support the School Behaviour Policy. The discipline policy is given to all parents and is reviewed regularly by the staff and the Governing body. Parental cooperation is requested in ensuring that your child complies with the school rules, which are strictly followed. The school rules exist to provide optimum progress, safety and well-being of all pupils. The school aims to maintain a happy but disciplined ethos. In cases of gross breaches of discipline, parents will be notified and their cooperation sought in correcting the child concerned. The school follows the discipline guidance of the Local Education Authority. Corporal punishment is not allowed on the school's property by an adult. Attendance at SchoolAll children, by law, must attend school. Absence from school or not being punctual, can seriously affect a child's education. We believe that attendance and punctuality are a shared responsibility between the school, parents and the pupils themselves and we will endeavour to work as a partnership to improve and maintain excellent standards of attendance. A note/telephone call or verbal message from the parent/s must occur to explain all absences from school. Leave of absence may be given to pupils for educational or medical reasons. Holidays taken during term time hinder a child's educational progress and we would hope that whenever possible parents will take holidays during school breaks. We do not permit and child to leave the school during school hours unless she/he is collected by an adult, or the Headteacher has received a request from the parent. School times: - Children must be on the school premises five minutes before the start of the morning/afternoon lessons. School CANNOT accept responsibility for children who are left unattended in the playground before 8:40a.m. or after 3:30p.m. REGULAR ATTENDANCE IS VITAL FOR YOUR CHILD'S EDUCATION Attendance 1999/2000Attendance - 94.66% Authorised Absences - 5.27% Unauthorised Absences - 0.07% Educational VisitsEducational visits constitute an important part of the child's education. all visits are chosen because of their educational value. Contributions are occasionally requested to cover the cost of a trip. The children are insured by the school for all trips/visits. A copy of the school 'charges and remissions policy' is available upon request from the school office. Pupils Personal Accident and Property InsuranceThe City carries no personal accident/property insurance on behalf of pupils. It is the responsibility of the parents to ensure that their child is adequately insured. The school has no funds to cover loss or damage to personal property. ALL clothing should be clearly labelled with the child's name. Valuable items should not be brought to school - school disclaims responsibility in the event of loss or damage to personal items. Clubs and ActivitiesClubs and out-of-school activities such as Tuesday club, football and athletic teams, Computer club are organised whenever possible. as the nature of these varies from year to year, notices will be issued when appropriate. School will endeavour to secure the opportunity for junior children to take part in a residential visit and also the opportunity to visit outdoor activity centres. HealthEvery child is medically examined by the school doctor during their time in Primary school. Hearing, vision and dental checks are carried out by the school nurse or dental service. If parents have any health worries about their child they should either consult their own doctor or make an appointment at the school clinic at Stockland Green Health Centre. I would like to bring to your attention the following:- The school nurse will NOT visit school to carry out inspections for head lice. Following the local health authorities guidance letters are issued to classes where incidents occur. Each year the school will part in a 'National Bug Busting Day', either in October or January. It is essential that children have sufficient hours of sleep. Children who come to school suffering from lack of sleep are not receptive to learning situations. Medicines in SchoolThe school will not undertake to administer medicines to children and medicines may not be brought to school by children. Parents of children who require permanent medicines e.g. asthmatics, should consult the Headteacher, as specific arrangements can be made in exceptional circumstances. A policy on medicines is available from the School Office. Meals in SchoolChildren may receive meals at school at the current charge, go home for dinners, or bring sandwiches if the Headteacher is consulted. The correct amount of dinner money should ALWAYS be brought to school on Monday morning in a named envelope - credit is not permitted by Citiserve who provide school meals. Some children may be entitled to free meals, if their parent(s) are on Income Support or Family Credit. Any parents who have entitlement to free meals should apply to the school secretary. The children are supervised at midday break by a team of dinner supervisors. Unruly behaviour is NOT allowed and persistently uncooperative children may be excluded by the Headteacher from the premises during the midday break. School FundThis is required to pay for extra items, which cannot be provided from the school budget. These include cookery ingredients, subsidising visits to school by, for example, Theatre Groups, Animal Man etc, and travel expenses. The school fund is audited and made available to the Governors. We would like each child to bring 50p each half-term. |
