Wow, what a difference a day makes! Our Sara is up walking around and getting into trouble already. To anyone who knows her you would understand the agony she's experiencing, having these wires hanging out of her chest and not be able to pull on them; kind of like an itch someone tells you not to scratch. I honestly believe we are on the home stretch, mothers day is just around the corner and all medical staff are marvelling in her progress, looks like a weekend homecoming.
MOMMY'S THOUGHTS ON THE DAY
I was able to get into bed with Sara last night, which is great for us both. She was able to sleep knowing I was right there and I could do the same.
When Sara woke up in the morning, I put on Dora the Explorer for her and if you know Dora, you know that she gets you to "say things". Well Sara was watching and Dora said to say "backpack" and Sara very willing obliged. Then Dora said to say it louder and again Sara obliged. ha ha ha I had to tell her to be very quite as other little ones were sleeping and the nurses are going think something was wrong. Sara's reply to me "But Mom, Dora said to say it louder". ha ha I really had to laugh.
Jennifer, the Physiotherapist got Sara out of bed and walking for the first time since before surgery. She was unsure at first, but once we got to the playroom, she was moving pretty good. (about 10 more grey hairs for mommy)
At about 10:30 a.m. We got word that we were moving onto the regular cardiology ward. Not even 24 hours later...amazing! Our Nurse, Wendy, she said that she didn't think she remembered anyone coming through there so quickly. That's my Sara!
Sara, such a little determinator, she didn't use a diaper once. She insisted on going to the potty on a potty. Amazing! I have to say that I am totally in awe of my child.
There had been a "buzz" for several days about a Royal Visit to the Hospital by Prince Andrew. Bindy, our Child Life Specialist, asked if we wanted to be able to be in the playroom that he was going through...well of course we do! So we signed the picture release form and were all set.
Needless to say, Sara fell asleep about an hour before he was to arrive and I wasn't about to wake her up. So when it was time I went down, but didn't go into the room. I watched him come off the elevator and he was charming and funny. I was trying to take some pictures, but I wasn't in a good spot, so a hospital employee offered since she was. She was so funny...pretty much knudged her self up closer and took some really great pictures. She was great! Just after she took the close up picture of Prince Andrew...he looked around and gave a charming smile and said "get back to work...look at you all hanging around here" everyone laughed. It was really quite something.
