Pre-Admission Clinic
Thursday May 01, 2003
We were to arrive at BC's Children's Hospital for 9am, we seemed to miss traffic and arrived there quite a bit early. They sent us for X-Rays, in which Sara did awesome, didn't even complain a bit.
They had put on her "magic cream" prior to us going to X-Ray so that we could have her blood drawn at some point pain free. After the X-Ray we went back to the pre-admission clinic and met with the Pediatrician, Physotherapist and the "sleepy doctor". All of whom thought Sara was in fine shape and we thought they were all very nice.
We then went up to have Sara's blood work done and she didn't even look away or flinch...she was awesome! We went and had a little lunch after that, cause we were ahead of the game. After lunch we met with the Cardiac Nurse and Child Life Specialist. We went over where Sara would go the morning of surgery and where she would be after that.(had a tour) When we were up on the Cardiology floor and the nurse was going over the procedure and what nots, Sara was playing with the Child Life Specialist and they were "doing surgery" on a doll...the doll even had wires and bandages. After that we were on our way for a tour of the ICU and Sara and the Child Life Specialist went back to the clinic...Sara went with her no problem, she even waved bye to us. That makes you feel better.
The Child Life Specialist will be going in with Sara, right into the OR after we can go no further with her. I like that idea that she will have someone that she feels comfortable with to be with her when we can't. The CLS is even willing to take some pictures of Sara while she is in the OR...before surgery of course.
