Sara's Surgery Journal

Monday May 05, 2003 ~ Surgery Day

"Father in Heaven we come to you for help for our precious Sara. Please hold her in your arms during the surgery when Nora and Grant can't be with her. Please guide the surgeons and allow their hands to be extensions of your healing hands. Lord, we ask that you help Nora and Grant through this difficult time. We understand how hard it is to let go and place all our trust in you as we hand our child's life over to someone else. But we know that you will be there. Heavenly Father, thank you that you have given us this faith that we have in you and we ask that you would strengthen Nora and Grant's faith at this time and assure them that you are carrying them through this journey. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen."

9:20 a.m.

We just got back...and surgery should now be underway. Everyone at Children's Hospital is really wonderful and Sara was totally at ease. We were told it would be about about 4-5 hours from now...so we wait. Thanks to all for the kind thoughts and prayers...keep them coming!

I will try to update again later on, after surgery. If not me, then hubby will do his best to put an update here.

**********
After we left home this morning we decided to go for lunch, well at least Grant could eat...I was to anxious. Then we thought we would drive around, we didn't know what else to do and it was a beautiful day. At 11:45pm the pager the hospital gave us went off...we just looked at each other, we didn't know what to think. So we pulled over and called the hospital and they gave us the news...Sara was off the by pass machine and all had gone very well. *Thank You God* And they were even out of there an hour early. We heard something new today..."aortic valve leak" but apparently it isn't anything that is needed to be concerned about at all.

The family met up at the hospital around 1:30pm and we were able to go in and see her about a half hour later. Sara's ICU nurse just happened to be my sister's old neighbour, what are the odds?

I have to say that it is much harder to see pictures of a child on a vent then it is to see your own child that way. I could see my child, as my child, not all the stuff that went along with her. At least that is the way it was for me.

I came home tonight as they felt even if they pulled her vent tubes tonight she would be totally out of it and I would be better off at home getting rested up. I can call any time of the night and check on her and they said that if she was really awake they would call me, no matter what time it was and I would go to the hospital right away.

Sara is doing really well...as well as can be expected, but we will know much more as of tomorrow.

Below are the pictures from today...some might be hard to look at so be warned, but they are closer to the end of the page.
