Sherry & Paul Proctor
us ...
Sherry, 41, and Paul, 34, live in Encinitas, California (in North San Diego County). We met a little over 11 years ago and have been married for almost 7 years. Paul has worked in the field of computer security for 12 years and is currently the director of technology for a large computer security company. He also just finished a book about intrusion detection for Prentice Hall that should be in the bookstores this summer. I (Sherry) returned to school at the ripe old age of 31 and earned a B.S. in cognitive science in 1995 (cog sci is a blend of computer science, neuroscience, and psychology, for those of you who were wondering). Right now, I work part time doing human factors and ergonomics research and spend the rest of my time honing my Web authoring skills and preparing for the arrival of our daughter. We have two beloved (and spoiled) dachshunds, Gromit and Farley, who have ably served as our kids over the years, and we look forward to introducing them to the newest member of the family — by the end of the year, we hope.
our adoption ...
After 4 years of infertility treatment, including in-vitro, we decided to adopt from China. We'd always thought we'd like to have a child and adopt one (even before we found out about our infertility), so it wasn't difficult to turn to adoption when we decided to stop the IVF for awhile. (We do have frozen embryos and will try again after completing an adoption.) We started our paperchase in September 1999 (after our second failed IVF) and were officially DTC on February 16, 2000. The paperchase took longer than expected and was sometimes very trying (can you relate?), but now that we are DTC, we can concentrate of some of the fun stuff! Our agency is GWCA, and we've requested a healthy infant girl 0-6 months old. We are really looking forward to the trip to China and are eagerly awaiting a September referral.
