We tried calling up India to inform our parents about this whole episode.
I couldn’t get to talk to my parents. However, we were able to talk to Sathish’s parents.
Much to our startle, his mom was very confident and bold and said that this was quite
common. His parents congratulated and emboldened us that everything would end well.
They were so happy on hearing the news on New Year’s Day.
After trying for a long time, I could talk my mom too. She also amazed me with assurance
that it is really a common thing that happens in the early stages of pregnancy and
congratulated us. My dad had gone to the temple then and hence could not speak with him.
Sathish was certain too and probably I was the only one who kept thinking that New Year
could have been a lot better.
January 11, 2002 - The Blissful Day
The appointment was scheduled at 3 0'clock in the afternoon. I left from work after
lunch and went to Sathish’s work place. We went to the hospital at 2:30 p.m. with
"fingers crossed". Since I did not have any pain or cramps, I was also slowly gaining
confidence, though not amply!! The nurse Ms. Nati Mora called us in and we met Dr. Lurvey.
He did my Second Ultrasound Scan and YES - we could see the tiny little heart beat!!!
What a moment that was in our lives!!! Dr. Lurvey was smiling and congratulated us,
          so did Ms. Mora.
We felt once again in our lives - "God is Great" and "We are blessed". The ecstasy,
as I had mentioned previously is no more ephemeral, but endless.
The Most Revered Ultrasound Picture
The picture above shows that the baby is only xxmms long and I was about
8 weeks and 1 day along in my pregnancy.
The picuture below is the magnification of just the baby in the sac.
Dr. Lurvey said that my next appointment would be with a nurse practitioner, who
would tell me about some tests. The next appointment was made for 21st Jan '02,
          with Ms. Joycelyn Edmund.
We came back home and called up our parents to inform this blessing of ours.
Meanwhile many of our friends who are expecting had started asking me about our plans.
We decided to tell them all about this good news as a surprise, on our 2nd Wedding
Anniversary that wasn’t very far off (7th Feb ’02). We knew we are going to be condemned
for not letting them know of this for so long. But still we decided to share the news on
          our special day, with everyone.
January 21, 2002
The appointment was scheduled at 2 p.m. Sathish had a holiday today for President’s Day.
I did not I came home at 1 p.m. He had cooked a nice lunch - Channa Masala and
Basmati Rice. We had lunch together and left for the hospital.
Ms. Edmund seemed to be a seasoned nurse. She was very friendly and motherly in
talking to us. It was just a casual visit. We had some questions and she answered
those for us. She told us about AFP (Alpha Feto Protein) Screening Test and gave a
small booklet to read and indicate our choice of consent/refusal for the test.
She also directed us to register and attend the Pre-Natal Classes offered by Kaiser
Permanente, for its members. Ms. Edmund also estimated my due date as 17th Aug ’02.
We went to the Women’s Health Center and registered for our first pre-natal class.
The first class - "Early Pregnancy Class" was scheduled for 12th Feb '02.
The next pre-natal visit was slated for the 26th Feb ’02 with Dr. Lurvey.
