Then the student asked the Unformed one: "Why are we here?"
The Unforged one sighed. "My child this is a question that has forever been asked. Why are we here? What is our purpose? Where are we going? There is no true answer for this question, except the one you know to be true."
The student struggled with this answer: "How can I know and not know at the same time?"
The Unmentioned continued "The answer lies in your pursuit of truth. At the end you may find that the reason we’re here is simply biological. Or you may find that we’re here to fulfill a purpose. Or you may find that ‘why’ isn’t even the question you should be asking in the first place."
"What should I be asking then?" the student inquired.
"What is more than ‘why,’" the Untouched one continued, "is the beginning of your search. Just know that the reason we are here is of little importance. Nothing we can do can change the fact that we are. What you must focus your energy on is what to do now that you are here. If a living thing constantly questions and never acts he becomes idle in his own inquiry. So thus you must ask yourself 'What will I do now that I’m here?,' rather than 'Why am I here?' The former only focuses on what we can never obtain, the later on what we have the power to control. Center your thoughts on the excellence that you can achieve and your reason for existence will fall into place. Focus on your pursuit of truth and you will find more than just the truth, you will find the reason."
