Imagine This Corporal

Upon a misty wall
A painted woman sits
Heart shattered in her dress
Pain etched across her face

"Imagine this woman
Had her husband not drank.
What a world of difference
To the people she'd meet
Instead of mourning eyes
And a caste of gloom upon her face
This woman could be happy
If only her husband hadn't drank"

A battle field portrait
A single man silently stand
With bloody, maimed bodies
Smothering the cold ground

"Imagine this corporal
Without a gun in his hand
Would this world be different
Were there no war in this land?
Could we all live without worry
That our children be killed
By the hands of a silent murderer:
The want of power and prestige."

A sculpture of a young boy
With his knees to his chest
A burden upon his back
A heart beating with no rest

"Imagine this child
Had someone bothered to care.
Instead he goes hungry
Feasting on his own sorrow
And the guilt he constantly eats
He could be happy and carefree
If only someone had bothered
To take him into their home."
