The Ocean

a dark cold morning
in the month of may
the sun creeped over
the horizon to bring day

warm strong hues
from it's radiant beams
cast an aura of light
the ocean gleamed

the sand on the coast
was warmed by the rays
and people started coming
each their own ways

they played in the ocean
they bathed on the land
sun started scrorching
old women fanned

a tiny young girl
maybe not seven
she went out to swim
but instead saw her heaven

the waves intoxicating
comsumed every thought
they beckoned to her
the child had been caught

she carefully approached
the water enticing
she knew it was wrong
and yet she kept going

she'd left her mother
alone on the beach
her father was too far
for her to reach

the waves crashed against
the feet of the girl
it felt so wonderful
she danced and whirled

but then it called her farther
then she could stand
but recklessly she grabbed
the ocean's mighty hand

it pulled in the distance
it tugged with all might
and soon the tiny child
was too far out of sight

she was swallowed by the ocean
eaten by the sea
and if you haven't noticed
this tiny girl is me

i'm drowning in your love
your sea of dreams for me
the only way to get out
is impossible for me
