Who to dive with

Who you will dive with depends on where you want to dive or where you are coming from:

CANBERRA - (Not much sea water. Where to dive?) A Number of dive shops and clubs run regular trips to the South Coast and further afield.

2 liveaboard boats that take groups onboard, from day trips to a week or more. No worries diving, you do not have to disassemble your gear between dives, hot showers on board and plenty of food between dives, and a quiet place to sleep on the water at night.

ULLADULLA Ulladulla has 2 dive shops and plenty of diving, including many good shore dives. One of the best things about boat dives at Ulladulla is that most of the dives are within 20 min of Ulludulla harbour so that you can easily come back to the harbour between dives for a comfortable surface interval.

If based at Ulludulla is Bawley Point has excellent shore diving, well protected from the south and heaps of variety. South of Bawley Point is Brush Island, some excellent diving including the remains of the boiler from a ship and lots of pelagics brought in by the currents. If a large enough group can be organised Ulludulla Dive shop will bring one of their boats down for a day of diving at Brush Island. If you are desperate for a dive and the weather has come up awful you can still get a dive, not deep, but heaps of interesting invertebrates and some river fish under the bridge at Burrill Lake. If you go in on the Southern side of the river you have easy access for a lovely drift dive with the current. Further south isBATEMANS BAY, 1 3/4 hours from Canberra only one dive shop based in the bay for air fills and boat trips. From Batemans bay by boat a couple of good locations for diving are the Toalgates with its Grey Nurse Shark population and Black Rock with many caves and overhangs to explore.

MALUA BAY dive has moved to the Moorings at Tomikin, from there they can take you to lots of lovely dives including Jimmys Island, Broulee island and my favorite dive Burri Wall. There are heaps of good shore dives in this area including mosquito bay (excellent night dive), Barlings Island, Tomikan headland, Broulee island and Broulee headland. These can be dived from Krazy Kat

NAROOMA is the "gateway" to Montegue Island, home of a seal colony a number of sharks, various visiting pelagic fish and much more. One of the biggest problems with diving from Narrooma is negotiating the Bar. In poor conditions it takes a brave and skilful captain to get you from the safety of the harbour out to the open ocean. Many boats are capsized leaving, or returning to Narooma each year.

MERIMBULA/EDEN Merimbula Divers lodge operates a lodge and shop in Meribula, there boats are on trailers and they dive a variety of spots up and down the coast. The best know sites are The Tugs. The tugs are the wrecks of the Tasman Hauler and the Henry Bolte in Two Fold Bay, Eden. There are many other good sites between Merimbula and Eden both shore dives and boat dives.
