The Teaching Styles of Bart Simpson

Linear Equation

1. T=2-2(2T-3(1-T))
2. T=2-2(2T-3+3T)
3. T=2-4T+3-6T
4. T=2-10T+6
5. 11T=8
6. T=.73
1. Given equation
2. Distribute the 1 & T to the 3
3. Now distribute the 2T, -3, & 3T
4. Add the -4T & -6T
5. Add the 10T to both sides of the equal side
6. Divide the 11 to both sides

Literal Equation

1. M=(Y2-Y1) (X2-X1
2. (X2-X1)M=Y2-Y
3. X2-X1=Y2-Y1 M
4. -X1=Y2-Y1-X2
5. X=X2-(Y2-Y1) M
1. Given equation
2. Multiply both sides by (X2-X1)
3. Divide both sides by M
4. Subtract both sides by X
5. Divide both sides by -1

Equation of a line

1. With slope =-1/2 through (2,3 )
2. y-y1=m(x-x1)
3. y-3=-1/2(x-2)
4. y-3=-1/2x+1
5. y=-1/2x+4
6. 1/2x+y=4
1. Given equation
2. Point slope form
3. Substitute the points for (x1,y1) and slope for m that is
    point-slope form
4. Distributive property
5. Write in slope-intercept form, y=mx+b
6. Add 1/2x to both sides to get standard form
