Kristy's KRAZY World of Equations
Welcome to my page of helpful hints.
I hope these little hints will help you to become better in math and at solving
all kinds of equations. Enjoy!!!
*SOLVING LINEAR EQUATIONS *
EXAMPLE |
3(7+x) -8x (simplify) |
First you must distribute the 3. Multiply this 3 times 7 and then times x. |
3(7)+3(x)-8x |
After multiplying, you then want to combine the x's. This will happen
by subtracting (3-8). |
21+3x-8x |
Now you have simplified your equation!!!! GREAT JOB!!!! |
21 -5x |
EXAMPLE |
2x+4x=12 ( solve for x ) |
First add (2x+4x) to combine the variables. |
(2x+4x)=12 |
After combining the x's, divide each side by 6 to solve for x. |
6x
=12 |
You have now solved for x!!! |
x=2 |

Literal Equations *
Examples
: |
D=rt
for t
|
To get t by itself
D=rt
You must divide
r
r
the r.
rD=t

Equation For A Line
Slope Intercept Equation = ( y=mx+b )
Example: (2,4)
m=1/2
y=mx+b
Insert x and y
values and the m.
4=(1/2)(2)+b
Multiply (1/2)
and
2.
4=1+b
Now subtract the
3=b
1 from the 4. |
Point- slope Equation= ( Y-y =m(X-x))
Example:
(0,4) m=2
y-4=2( x-0)
Insert your x, y ,
and m values into
the equation.
y-4=2x
Distribute your 2.
+4 +4
Now add your 4
over to leave your
y alone.
Y=2x+4
You now have your
Slope intercept
Equation to
graph your line.
Standard Form Equation= ( ax+by=c ) Example: Y=3x-19
You want to leave the 19 alone.
3x-y=19
Subtract the 3x to get your S.F.E
