Wow!! Linear Equations!!!
  These are fun!! They are very basic and consist of one plain variable!!! We'll just call it "X"! It can be any letter, but "x" works the best. basically, you are given a simple equation like :

X+7=13 Now you know this equation. All you have to do is fill in the blank. What plus 7 equals 13? That's easy!! The answer is 6!!

Now these easy equations might seem like fun, but they do get a bit harder. They can become more complex. Not too complex, but more than that equation. So lets look at a few. Ok???

 

Here goes:
 

X+8=-6

So what do you do?? You take the 8 and subtract it from the -6!! That gives you -11!! That's your answer!!! Wow you did it!!

Now lets add another step!!! What if that X had a number attatched to it??? Say like 3X!!! So lets try it!!!

3x=9

So what you do is divide both sides by the 3. That would give you X=3!! Good job!!

Fractions??? Yes fractions can happen too! All you do is multiply both sides by the reciprocal. So if you have 2/3X=10 then the answer would be X=3/2*10/1 which would become X=15. Wow!!

So let's try some different types. Say you have:

5X-3=-28

~~ +3~ +3

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

5x=25 X=25/5 or X=5

7x+4=2x-6

(~ -4 ~~ -4) 7x=2x-10

~~~~~~~~ -2x -2x ~~ 5x=-10

X=-5

If the two variables do not match up in the end, then the answer is NO SOLUTION!! Do not try to make them match, because it is simply not possible!! Do check them a few times though!!!

The lesson on these equations is Kill the Variable!! You do not like them , you do not want them!!! They stay on one side and do not touch the other numbers!!!
