Priscilla's Practical Math Help

                      !!!Make Linear Eguations Easy!!!
     Example #1
          Write the equation.          5x = 15
          Isolate the variable by dividing by 5.          5x = 15
          5      5
         Write the answer.........        x  = 3
 ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
         Example #2

             Write the equation.

           3x + 7x = 80

           Add the two alike terms (x's)

           10x = 80

  Divide both sides by 10 to isolate the x
           10x = 80
               10      10

   The answer to x is left.

             x = 8
 ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
       Example #3
             Write the equation           5x - 6 = 3x - 8
             add 6 to the other side           5x - 6 =  3x - 8
             +6              +6
            Rewrite the equation.....           5x = 3x - 2
             subtract 3x, and add to the other
                side (10x)
          5x = 3x - 2
        -3x      -3x
            Rewrite the equation.....           2x = -2
            Divide both sides by 2, to isolate
               the x.
          x = -1

Literal Equations Made Easy

             Example #1

        Write Equation.......
       Solve for (S)
         A = T R S
                180
        Multiply both sides by 180, to
       eliminate the denominator
         (180) A = T R S  (180)
                        180
        Rewrite the problem.....          180A = T R S
        Divide by "T" and "R" to isolate
      the "S"
         180A = T R S
        T R       T R
        ReWrite the answer to "S''           180A = S
         T R

    Example #2

           Given the Equation.....
           Solve for "a"
                Q = 3a + 5ac
            Factor out the "a"                 Q = a ( 3 + 5c )
            Divide both sides by 3 + 5c                 Q  =  a ( 3 + 5c )
            3 + 5c      3 + 5c
            Rewrite the answer...               a =   Q
                  3 + 5c

 !!!Take a look at the Equations of a line!!!

                  Slope Intercept                Y = mx + b
                  Point Slope                Y - Y1 = m (X - X1)
                  Standard Form                Ax + By = C
  ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
                                                                     Slope Intercept Form
           Given Information...
          Y = Mx + b
            ( -1, -6)
           Replace the variables with
          the given numbers
            (-6) = (4)(-1) + b
         Solve for the variable "b"              -6 = -4 + b
          +4       +4
           Answer for "b"               -2 = b
           Rewrite in slope Intercept form              Y = 4x -2
  ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
                                                        Point Slope Form
             Given Information.....
            Y - Y1 = m (X - X1)
           ( 1, 4 )     m = -3
                       (slope)
              Replace "m" with the
            slope given
           Y - Y1 = (-3) (X - X1)
             Substitute Y1 and X1 with
            ( 1, 4 )
           Y1 = 4
         X1 = 1
             Rewrite the problem...            Y - 4 = -3 (X - 1)
  *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
                                                  Standard Form
               Given Information....
              Ax + By = C
          Y - 5 = -7 (x - 1 ) .......(PS form)
              Distrubute the -7           Y - 5 = -7x + 7
              add -5 to both sides           Y = -7x + 12
              Move -7x to the other side           7x + 1y = 12
